What can be done to stop cheating ?

My fire team dosed once last night in trials. It was obvious flying it that we were going to be hit from their recent game history, and we were. Also, my mates playing comp got dosed twice, by the same team. And then they got dosed once in trials. In my experience it used to be a relatively rare event, but is now becoming a regular occurrence. Honestly , this is getting really stupid, and is out of control.

  • There's not much you can do on your end and with their shoddy p2p system there really isn't all that much Bungie can do either. Of course, I give them a lot of flak on the topic because they seem to believe "not much they can do" is a valid excuse to not do anything at all. It's true, there are not many options at Bungie's disposal in the area of preventing cheaters but there are ways to detect them and ban them in retrospect. Ddos'ers tend to have a pattern in their game history and Bungie has that data; player history is tracked and this includes things like kills, deaths, remaining players, etc. If someone at Bungie were to scout the leader boards, or write up an algorithm for a security system that did this automatically, looking for patterns in gameplay that include frequent occurrences of winning with low scores, enemy teams with low player counts, high ranks in crucible with suspiciously low k/d or k/d/a, etc. then they could easily track cheaters. If they did go with an automated system, don't give that system the ability to issue bans (of course) but it could be used to flag cheaters. But... since Bungie doesn't actually care, what we get instead are more incentives to play pvp with no noticeable or proposed actions taken to reduce cheating. What we'll get is more pushing by Bungie to play pvp and this leads to more incentives for cheaters as well. P.s. I'm not saying Bungie should do away with incentives in pvp, but if they do keep adding incentives to play pvp in hopes of salvaging the crucible then they need to add security as well. Right now they've got basically nothing going in regards to dealing with cheaters and from what we've seen, they have no interest in doing anything either.
