Considering Savathun can take Awoken (which have Light in them) she could be getting close to being able to take Guardians.
We know that Mara and the Techeuns survived the attack on the Dreadnaught, and there was some time between that and Savathun being able to take. It could be possible that Mara was able to contact Uldren while she was in the Ascendant Realm and get him to amass a Fallen army in hopes of saving her and the other Awoken trapped in there.
When Savathun became Taken Queen she found the Awoken and took them. She then used a Taken Mara to puppet Uldren into madness, knowing he could sense the corruption in Mara. This sent the Reef into further disarray as Uldren attacked it out of madness. This allowed Savathun to carry out her plans on Titan, the Dreadnaught, and the Dreaming City without Awoken interference.
We then kill Uldren, forcing her to send out the Taken Awoken to stop us from interfering while she figures out how to take us.
In fact, this could also shed some light on why Uldren is trying to kill us and kills Cayde. We killed Oryx and Malok, which gave Savathun the power to take and got his sister taken. Plus, ya know, he’s going crazy and Savathun is puppeting him.
I know it’s similar to yours, but I had to throw it out there.

Well we should already know this: There are Taken armour pieces we can wear, called the Desolate set. Obviously if armour made by Guardians can be Taken (which is made of Light and materials), then a Guardian could possibly be Taken. This is just an idea not a theory or something to take seriously, btw.
-
It’s a little hint that could support the theory. I actually forgot about that armor set.

Due to plot armor Savathûn won’t be able to take us and likely not other powerful guardians like Shaxx and Ikora, but I wonder if she could take the Shadows of Yor. It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch because they deal in the darkness similar to how awoken supposedly waver between light and dark. This could be terrifying if done correctly, and I hope we get to see this later when it come be done more than as a side story for Forsaken.

I like this theory. Very plausible.

<I agree with the other guy, this sounds pretty plausible.>
-
I try, but I think your theory is better. I jumped to a few too many conclusions.
-
That actually sounds quite plausible. But I still don’t get how Uldren killing Cayde fits in there other than him just feeling like it. Like, it does not help him accomplish his goals, since the Scorn already seem to be freed at his point. But still, very solid theory.
But I still don’t get how Uldren killing Cayde fits in there other than him just feeling like it. Like, it does not help him accomplish his goals, since the Scorn already seem to be freed at his point.
Well Cayde shows up because the Scorn were freed. He was trying to stop them. Killing Cayde prevents him from capturing or killing the Scorn and putting an end to what Uldren is trying to accomplish.
-
But they are already free. Cayde alone (even with us) could have done nothing at this point to stop them. They would (and probably will) overwhelm him. It really depends on how the first mission will play out.

Just... going crazy is the best explanation, I think. And thanks!
