Anyone else supremely disappointed that Xol was one of the easiest bosses ever? That EPIC intro and then you kill it in the next mission. Should've been a raid boss with many more story missions added in and loads of lore. They could've added so many fight mechanics with it being a beast of immense dark power. Make you barely able to see, or very weak and you have to fight just to move. Maybe you can't even kill it the first time and you just have to crawl in darkness and try to escape after fighting it. Something I don't know. Nah, this is Bungie we'll take a WORM GOD and have you kill it after 4 to 5 short easy missions. Welcome to Destiny everyone.

  • Vicarious Visions supervised the production of Warmind and thus the writing for Xol’s role A for effort

I don't like how boss fights amount to just shooting at them to win. A boss usually is defined by how you take it down just as much as how it looks. To be fair Xol was an actually unique enemy for a strike boss, and had his own weak points, attack patterns, and all that. That said Oryx in the raid took certain steps to kill. Penoptes is a more recent example that also took certain steps to kill. They need to do that more, and also I find the spectacle of this series is lacking heavily. We are always in a small arena like room as well. For example why don't we just get right to the boss fight at the beginning? You could beat them at any point through it though it is unlikely early on. So as you could guess taniks doesn't count but is close. That or how have we still not done any vehicle boss fights or anything? The mission design, bosses and encounters up to that, are just terribly formulaic and uninspired. Along with lacking any real variety to begin with. You just shoot your guns the whole way.

        • What’s awful is the lore implications. We in the campaign (or at least I did) solo kill a WORM GOD. He worm gods are extremely powerful and we killed it alone. Are you kidding? Even if xol may not be the most powerful worm god, he is still extremely powerful, and it is silly how we just shoot him a couple times and then we have killed a worm god. In the strike, you can melt him without using the javelin.

            • Worm Gods: ostensibly more powerful than Oryx. Easily killed by a single guardian who doesn't even have a Gjallarhorn, Touch of Malice or self-res. Oryx: Requires a full fireteam and more than a few wipes. Bungie logic.

                • Yes Xol was extremely lack luster, i think the angle they were trying to go for there was how powerful Rasputin and the javelin are, but definitely lost in context in how easy and under-whelming Xol was. You are 100% right, they missed the boat on that one.

                    • Crota and Oryx were both defeated in story missions. They only became powerful raid bosses when we challenged them in their throne worlds. Xol and Nokris were actually more difficult fights than either Crota or Oryx. ..and since they were defeated in THIS realm there is no guarantee that either of them are permanently dead.

                          • What they should have done was, after you defeat Nokris and Xol, their bodies are then swallowed up by the Leviathan. This causes a portal to the ascendent realm to appear at the beginning of Spire of Stars, so you can fight them for realsies as the mid boss and final boss in all their glory.

                          • Bungie likes to ‘surprise’ us with raid bosses that no one predicted. The problem with that is that after day 1 people are wondering who the hell are argos/val ca’ur & how do they relate to panoptes/xol? And the answers are either poor or non-existent, Thus making the story fall flat on its face for the rest of the game’s life-cycle while writing team pats themselves on the back for the ‘well-executed’ cheap shock effect that is short-lived.

If you want a comparison of one of the bigger ones I advise you to go and look at the dreadaught which is the corpse of akka. Please do a little bit of research before you start spewing sh!t everywhere you assuming cuck.

                                  • I used to criticize Bungie for not having much story in game. Now, I appreciate that Bungie respects my time enough that I can blow through the obligatory story with ease so I can get on with completely wasting my time in the end game. Bring on the seemingly storyless content of the Annual Pass. I don't need a story.

(Both were decent not trashing them or something). Gaul had that feel, but we got our powers back too quickly and too easily. D1 was good with Oryx being the one seemingly huge threat, and it took time to work up to fighting him. Crota, Skolas, and Siva were threats that seemed important, but less meaningful. Don’t even get me started on the darkness in base game. Just...just...no. The point of all this is that TTK was one of Destiny’s bigger successes. And it was a really big threat. When you kill of the big threat in three story missions, it just doesn’t mean anything. I’m really ok with not having a huge threat in each expansion. I’d rather one big threat. Like in D1. (Oryx).
