• So white people should take the blame for what happened in the past even thought we abolished it meanwhile you sjw ignore the fact that Muslim countries still use African slaves to this day

      • Yes totally, I'm so ashamed that we abolished that practice. Now we have to pay them hourly! And they have rights 🤦‍♂️

      • I am not American, but I am thinking of moving in the US, not sure what state but so far I think Ohio. So I guess in a few years my answer will be "No because feeling guilty over something you didn't have anything to do with is dumb and because I wasn't even in the US when slavery was practiced"

        • No. But I do feel bad for the on-going issues that slavery and segregation has caused in modern times. It's so blatantly obvious but people just turn a blind eye to it and just say "well they did it to themselves" when they didn't.

            • I feel shame but no guilt I'm directly didn't cause or have a part in slavery so I don't feel guilt But I do feel shame In part over the fact humans believed that owning another man was right just because of his skin colour which ultimately has lead to the bigotry and ignorance that we see today.

            • Well it wasn't me. I don't feel guilt or shame because we once forced prisoners to fight to the death as gladiators. Nor do I feel guilt or shame that our ancestors once made Jews and Hebrews slaves. Humanity has been evolving ever since we were created. I'm not racist. I shouldn't feel guilty that my great great great great great great great great grandfather was.

            • I am 100% white and my ancestors never touched a slave, let alone owned one. Why should I feel guilty for something neither my family nor I took part in just because of my skin color or where I was born?

              • Asking people who know nothing of what it's like to live in a society that has slavery is like asking a fish what it's like living in a desert. It's ridiculous. But to answer your ridiculous question, no I do not feel guilt for what happened hundreds of years ago. It was bad and not my or any body that's living fault, so why should any of us feel guilt for it? But here's a little fun bit of trivia, the first slave owner in America was a black man named Anthony Johnson in Virginia.

                • No. I was not there, I owned no one, sold no one, and everyone who did is now dead. It is not my sin to feel shame for.

                  • That's like asking if since I'm like 10 percent German I feel bad some of my ancestors could have been a -godwinslaw!-. I don't know about them. I don't know what any of my ancestors did except some came on about from Italy and were likely discriminated against too since the Italians were at the time. Point being we have nothing to do with our ancestors. Hell if power was shifted any race of people could have enslaved any other race of people. You never know. The important thing is what we do in our lifetimes.

                    • Blacks weren’t the only race enslaved whites have also been in slavery throughout history, do we ask their relatives if the feel guilty, hell no. Why should I feel guilty if I had no part in it anyway. The blacks sold themselves into slavery should they feel guilty?

A maybe more triggering, but also more productive, question (to all Americans) would be whether they support some form of reparations. We are already moving towards a Jobs Guarantee as a mainstream Democratic position, and it seems like Liberals may actually end up supporting something like baby bonds, though we're probably 10-15 years out from that. Both are a modern version of "reparations", being a means to the end of erasing the racial wealth gap.

No one is asking for white people to feel shame or guilt because of slavery They’re being asked to clean up the mess that it created in this country. Inappropriate guilt actually interferes with this.

                        • My ancestors may have bought slaves but black people's ancestors sold each other out as slaves. If I should have to feel guilty, then they should have to feel guilty too.

                        • No. My ancestors didn't own slaves. Well, in America any way. But I am mostly Italian, so I better start apologizing to all the people that were enslaved by the Roman Empire.
VAE VICTIS
