Unpopular Opinion: Destiny Raids Don't Challenge the Community

Yeah, I know I said it, even after the new Raid Lair only having a few teams clearing it I will say this now. This raid is too easy. Its not easy if you are in a group under 270. I know, I know, World's First took awhile with a team full of 270 but did you guys watch the stream? Once they had the final encounter down they kept wiping because of small mistakes. The communication requirement is there but... the skill requirement won't make the raid lair last more than a month after player's get geared up. The reason for this? Bungie's raid design focus on two things now. Communication Add Control That's it. All mechanics focus on communication to specifically do a mechanic, although it is an important skill in raiding... its also a basic general skill you have to have. Then all that remains is add control and staying alive. This is then focused more on gear rather than a player's personal skill level. Here is an example: I took a raid static member I play with in FFXIV into D2 a few days ago before warmind and brought him into Leviathan. I told him basic instructions on how the encounters go. His response? "That's it?" We nearly one shotted the entire raid, with a player that had just started the game the day before who doesn't play FPS games. We even gave him the most difficult positions besides leading dogs. These raids, Bungie... aren't hard nor built to last even with good gear. Every fight has far too few mechanics that test each player, too few mechanics that test a groups skill, and far too forgiving. A death in a raid can spell a wipe, not just because of bad timing, but also lose of DPS. Destiny is the only raid that limits your revives, while others give you a massive DPS debuff. Why do they do this instead of limiting revives? So players can see more of the encounters and learn. There is little learning in Destiny 2 raids. Figure out the basic mechanic, see how it leads to the boss dropping his shields, and giving everyone a basic role. Bungie, focus on mechanics over gear check. The Prestige raids need to be harder with worthwhile rewards. They don't last unless you do this. There is a reason why raiding communities in other games stay relatively healthy, because the majority of them take days if not weeks learning just one encounter. Push us. We will embrace the challenge. We want a good challenge.

  • Agreed somewhat. The mechanics are definitely to obvious right now. Not that I care, I hate figuring out raids. But IMO they should not be made easier because some newbies jumped in and couldnt figure it out.
