I mean, it can't be hard to look up your own cannon can it? seriously, the ammount of flaws in the games story are comical. For starters, Cortana was already abourd the Pillar of Autumn, no Spartan team ever delivered her to Keyes personaly. The Autumn was already in space. Reach has more MAC guns than Earth, yet none are in the space level, nor is the orbital ring for space dock. I could go on, but it seems in their last hurrah, Bungie have forgotten about the book fanbase, and have gone with the simple cashi-in for those that dont care about story.
-
I agree on what you saided fifthderelicte but it would bin good if they kept Reach as a military strong hold.
-
I don't care about canon, but I have to agree with you. If you're the creator, how difficult is it to keep a pretty straight story going?
-
Bungie is/was to Halo as George Lucas is to Star Wars. IF Lucas says Darth Maul survived being cut in half and opened a -blam!- bar with his lover jar jar binks, then by golly it happened. If Bungie says this is how it went down, this is how it went down.

The way you type that saids that you hate books with only writing in it. an 1 little facted... you could not fragment a A.I. with out destroying it.
I don't hate books. I do however hate the Halo books or rather the people who religiously follow all the crappy, contrived story in them and then whinge and -blam!- whenever Bungie does something against the so-called canon.
Posted by: lilmanjr Also the fact that Halsey never even knew spartan III's existed but yet she comes in contact with a whole team of them. or how this game spans longer then 37 days but yet in the book the battle doesnt even last a week.
LOL i haven't played the campaign yet but 37 days!?! the battle was over in less than a day in the book. That is some fail storywriting by bungie, they could have really connected some cool stuff from the book, like the autumn taking out that huge covenant ship before slipspacing to the first halo. That is pretty disappointing.

Bungie i must say you have created a epic game for casuals and hardcore fans that Follow the books, everything Fits still after reading the Journal it does it's all Good, anyway wouldnt the revisions of the flood and First strike by any chance perhaps shed light, i mean what one chapter or one page and te already perfect line that has been created and layed will be Set.
-
Earth has more MACs, Reach only has like 20. It was never specified how Cortana got on the PoA. And the PoA was on Reach, it was being refitted for their mission of capturing a Prophet and force them into a truce. Maybe YOU should look up the cannon.
-
You do realize that according to Halo: Fall of Reach, all of this happens in 2542, right? Therefore rendering anything about canon moot. Bungie did not write the books. The authors were just random people given a license by Microsoft.

I think i can say with some certanty, im glad this is their last game, it seems they cant be bothered with it anymore.
Well, like I said, it's clear that not many of the original story writers worked on Reach. It doesn't ruin the game for me but it's gonna make me hesitant to really get into the story of whatever game Bungie comes up with next. There's people who really got into the Halo Universe only to be disregarded by Bungie.
Actually, you're wrong there. The author who wrote "The Fall of Reach" was working on the game itself. Just because it deviates doesn't mean the writers are absent - it just means that some things tend to change. If you're not a fan of the fluff shifting after a decade, then I'd advise not reading tie-in novels to video games.
Posted by: I am Zappy180
Posted by: mjolinr For starters, Cortana was already abourd the Pillar of Autumn, no Spartan team ever delivered her to Keyes personaly
Yes, she was on the pillar of autumn. However, if you got the limited or legendary edition, in halsey's journal, it says that noble team had basically an "update" for her, so she could do more stuff. well thats the overall "jist" of it
See? Bungie will always change -blam!- somehow so why even bother with the books. Disregard the books, acquire wisdom.
-
Bungie wanted something fresh. They don't want to write a story they've already told. No one would be interested. They wanted to tell the story of Noble.

another thing that i just thought about. Cortana was split, granted. One half with the chief, one crunching numbers and reviewing forerunner information, attained from a crystal found by MC from Cóte d'Azur, and here in lies the question. Why would you take an object, (the crystal) from what is now non-canon, and put it into a game where you had to read said non-canon to know it existed in the first place? Again, if this is in the journal, i appologise. But it seems a head-up-arse way of doing things, no?
-
They made the game they can change the lore.
-
The books -blam!-ing sucked and it's time people dealt with it.
-
it makes me laugh that bungie had to squeeze extra money from people to make a game understandable, instead of putting it in the game. As for the journal, no, i havent read it, if i had, then this post wouldn't exist, would it. If bungie have become so low that they have to price up a product so the buyer has a complete understanding then im glad it's their last. mind you, i wouldnt mind getting my hands on that journal, and it would have been nice for them to say that the journal contains some story instead of just listing it as an added bonus.
Posted by: lilmanjr If the events in FoR happened how can you explain halsey being in one place in the game, and another at the same time in the book. thats the whole point of this argument is the game is contradicting the book and vice versa, and every one is trying to decide which gets cannon superiority the game or the book. because the events in the game made it impossible for both to co exist now bungie has divided their community by making them decide weather to follow the books cannon or the games. This is a problem because the last thing bnet needs is a division amongst the members. And trust me there are alot more than the 1% of the community that someone stated earlier that read the books.
Bungie changed the timeline...thats it....everything else in the books and the game happened, the only thing that NEEDs to be cleared up is the new timeline for the book...everything else fits.

There's always the "alternate universe" explanation lol.
-
Um...there were a lot of people on Reach. A lot of military personnel, a lot of ships, a lot of civilians, a lot of marines, and a lot of Spartans. This followed Noble Team. Everything that happened in FoR happened, you just didnt see it. All Bungie did with Halo: Reach was tell another story. They said it a million times. 'Reach was an epic struggle for Humanity, this tells the story of an important Spartan team that had a huge impact on the battle for Reach, Noble Team.' All the other stuff that you read about, happened, you just didnt see it. It told another story. Thats all.

First off, reach had, what? 20 MAC cannons? Earth had somewhere in the hundreds. Secondly, there very well could have been the docking ring. The sabre mission shows only a bit of the planet. While I quite agree about the whole Cortana in space bit, I think it is irrelevant and we should just enjoy the game and story (which was epic) for what it is.
the Cortana in this game was just a fragment of the real cortana. Once it was back on the Pillar of Autumn, it re-integrated with the other Cortana.

Bungie>books the novels are now not cannon, deal with it.
