Kinda sucks that we’re sticking with the “good guy against bad guy” theme for destiny. I would love a choice between the two, Darkness and Light. I would obviously choose the Darkness.

  • I feel like TTK was the perfect opportunity for Bungie to explore darker and more expansive themes than just Good vs Bad. I'd love to see darker and more conplex story telling in Destiny, there is so much great lore but it doesn't make it into the game. It's probably to appeal to a broader audience which I understand they have to do, it just kind of sucks. Something like "What if the light isn't good? What if the darkness is just like us?" would be cool to see.

I was thinking about it, and I had a thought. Good and bad is kind of a general term, right? Oryx believed he was on the “good” side, helping the universe towards its perfect shape. We believe in serving the Light. So to either side, Oryx or we believe that we are fighting for good. But who really is good? Just because the Light is white and helps life, does that mean it’s inherently good and doesn’t have an ultimatum? Does that mean that, no matter what, the Darkness is inherently bad because it wants the universe to reach what it considers its perfect form? Perhaps it just comes down to which side we think is just. I don’t think either side is “bad”. And, tying that into what you said, I hope we get that choice eventually.

In any war/conflict both sides believe they are right. The darkness wants to get the universe to it's final/perfect shape, that is achieved (in their view) by the removal of lesser/weaker beings, they see us as such because we need the help of the Traveller (the darkness' enemy{as far as we know}) where as we don't don't want to be removed from existence, and don't want what we had which was the rapid expansion of humanity and possible colonisation of other solar systems (and honestly humanity as a species are very vengeful group of beings which are strong willed, stuburn, and a handful of them are downright mean and hateful, and most all will hold a grudge for as long as either party exists
not to mention they are typically rather easy to PO if not already POed
Both sides can believe that they are right. But I'll put my money on humanity.

  • Maybe but don't count humanity out just yet.

  • Exactly what I have been thinking. Maybe the two sides aren't that different, maybe the darkness is just a reflection of the light in a way. It would be awesome if Bungie would create something related to this but I doubt it. Even if Bungie would like to, Activision would most likely not allow it. It caters more to a hardcore and adult audience while Destiny is very kid-friendly.
