Software development is different to most other industries. In software, large replacement projects always have issues at launch that means things are initially WORSE than the old system, which had years of fixes and enhancements and daily use by millions to flush out all issues A new game does not have years of improvements at launch, BUT once the critical issues are fixed, it goes on to be an improvement on the old one. Bungie decided to make a new start to bring PC players in, and move to a new version of the engine and API, to get away from legacy development issues that hampered D1 They have made mistakes and rushed to launch but they are focused on improving it. It is already visually superior to D1, maybe they can fix the end-game issues and make it a genuine improvement, maybe not...

  • Graywolf, except this new game did have years of improvements. Quite literally years. I'm not saying d1 was perfect but anyone who thinks d2 is better in any other way as far as rewards and gameplay goes (if you care about cosmetics over this go -blam!- yourself) is mentally disabled

  • No this is the whole misunderstanding. D2 was developed from scratch with a new version of the engine and API It definitely did not have years of improvements, that was D1 an entirely separate piece of software

  • Yes I understand that. What I'm saying is you can't say they didn't have any idea on improvements. They had 3 years of changes and improvements in d1, you're telling me they couldn't have used at the very least similar concepts? You sir win the most mentally disabled of the week award

  • Throwing those insults out just makes you a toxic idiot. No need for it. I'm a software developer, you are clearly not. No one can just copy and paste 'improvements' from D1 to D2 when it is a completely different piece of software

  • Oh I'm sorry I didn't know I said copy and paste improvements? Oh wait that's right, I didn't. I said that those improvements could be used in a similar concept, so again here's your mentally disabled award don't try and eat it. And if you're a developer then I'm a cowboy astronaut pirate

  • No need to make yourself look dumb. You've already lost this argument if you need to throw insults to justify your claim. Pretty much ppl won't take you seriously if that's all you got. So far greywolf made a great point and he knows this by experience.

  • What you have said certainly holds truth to software development and can be taken into account for any game's progress over time; however, it doesn't hold any water towards a game's content. Bunghole's engine is actually pretty solid, the new P2P connections are adequate, the weapons are overall balanced (even though they are boring) and the graphics are finally on par with other AAA titles. However, the abhorrent amount of content, the blatant focus on MTX, subpar DLC, and some ridiculous changes from D1's model of success is where Bunghole failed immeasurably. This is unacceptable for such a main stream developer.

  • I agree one has to distinguish between building a new logical structure for a game to work (i.e the "platform") and the content for that platform, much of which is data for the engine People decrying that things in D1 were "removed" don't understand that a new Destiny platform had to be created for D2. But I agree there needs to be much more content over cosmetic items

  • @GrayWolf stop kissing bungies butt. I have designed and released a number of successful games and these issues have nothing to do with development, engines, or anything around a new creation path being taken. These are integrity issues, and how bungie exploits the gamer to increase revenue. These bungie idoits have created a new money grab trend in the industry that will destroy gaming. $60 bucks is not appealing to these investors anymore, so they are manipulating in game mechanics to suck more money out of players. So don't down talk people in the forums as if the problem is that they don't understand game design/development. You and everyone agreeing with you are completely insane if you think Bungie didn't use any of the code/assets from D1 and started from scratch.
