Will Halo Reach let us play in split-screen mode like this?
I need to know if we'll have an option to go vertical or horizontal. In Halo 3, when using split-screen mode, it's like half the screen space is wasted by these black bars on the sides.
Yes, I know the black bars are on the side to keep aspect ratio. But can SOMEONE answer me?

No. I'm not going to flame. I'm talking about widescreen TVs. And maybe the thing happened with Halo 2 because Halo 2 was arguably designed to be played on a box shaped tv instead of these wide-screen displays that are suddenly everywhere.
Posted by: hiterXxX117 it was vertical for halo 2, but the first player's image was cut off, and the radar was also cut off slightly, but the second player had the good image... this is only for widescreen tv's, so dont flame!!! I've got a square TV too. Provides a very sharp picture, too. The sad thing is, a lot of games nowadays just assume that the consumer owns a $1700 wide-screen POS covering half the wall of their living room. So the games are filled with all this REALLY tiny font, even though they now have more room than ever before to write things in large, easy-to-read font and still have plenty of screen-space available.
Posted by: Sajuuk Kar I really hope so, playing split screen with today's TVs is ridiculous. I'm glad is still have a square TV but I don't think it's going to last much longer. As far as you know? Like... you read this in a weekly update?
Posted by: OMARRCHR The reason why your TV has black bars on the side of the picture in Halo 3 is because of the aspect ratio. It doesn't want to stretch the picture. And as far as I know, it's going to stay this way for Reach. There most likely won't be an option to change it.
*Facepalm* I know about all that. But I do not care. When playing on a widescreen TV in split-screen mode, it's like I may as well be just playing on a standard sized TV because all the extra space off to the left and right is WASTED. I don't care if the field of view is cut short. All I want to know is if ANYONE knows if Halo Reach will even have an OPTION to play vertical split-screen?
Posted by: NeEdToBeCoM Aspect ratio, Field of view, Widescreen TV. it really is better as a horizontal split. natural human FOV is about 120 degrees from side to side. anything less and situational awareness takes a severe hit.
It's all determined by your TV settings, I play on a monitor and I believe it's set to wide screen, and Reach in split screen is Horizontal for me. But not sure if i were to change any settings that it can be vertical. i would assume if you found a way to change it to vertical in Halo 3, that it would be the same way to change it in Reach.

WTF I have never seen LFD do split screen like that....or have I?

No. The black bars show up on the side when you're in horizontal split-screen mode and you're playing on a wide-screen TV. I just want to know if Halo Reach will have a VERTICAL split-screen option so we can play like in the picture.
