This is a virus prevention warning.
I'm sure many of you have come across this site, which will convert music tracks people have posted on Youtube into an MP3 format readable by iTunes/iPod etc.
I was on it just now, and for the first time ever, my antivirus has blocked the site, telling me that it hosts 'cleanfile.net' which hosts malware. I decided to continue, and in the 3 minutes I've been on it so far, downloading a track, it has tried sending Malware my way.
In short - don't use video2mp3.net unless you have a good anti-virus software. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THE URL, YOU WILL GET VIRUSES.
If you have no antivirus - DO NOT USE THE SITE OR YOUR COMPUTER WILL BLAM UP BAD!
Thank god for Avast's web shield.
NOTE: I didn't link the site for obvious reasons, but I did put in the url so people can recognise the site name

get firefox and the youtube downloader addon. Also, it may be just viruses in the ads, I know that on the WoW forums there was an issue with this as well. edit: The site doesnt control the ads, google does and sometimes bad ads get through, and also why people were so ticked off when Bli$$ard decided to keep the ads on the forums. Hello, I wanted to clarify a few things on this post. I am the owner of Video2Mp3.net. We in no way intentionally infect our users with viruses. Our service is a conversion tool where the user provides us with a video to convert. We do not file share or maintain any of those videos on our system. So our service in no way gives the user a virus. However it has been brought to our attention that a 3rd party advertiser was serving viral ads. We have located the source and removed the entire advertising network from our site all together. Our service is completely safe to use and we strive to provide the users with the best possible experience. Video2Mp3.net

Ah, how disappointing. I was just on that site BEFORE this thread popped up (there are pop-ups now). Thanks for the warning OP. :( [Edited on 08.20.2010 4:36 PM PDT]

I use Realtime player sp, I can download videos and convert them to any file type.

I rip songs directly from youtube with the "Stereo Mix" option with Sound Recorder. I've made some pretty awesome CD's with it, and the quality is just as good as the video itself. Also, it's more likely that the site was set up as legit but another hacker broke it's security and inserted the malware into it's code. It happens to a lot of indie sites. Use Freemake Video Converter and Downloader. Awesome tools, and completely free. Converts lots of stuff from videos to mp3, also can just take a url from youtube and download the video AANNND convert it too, in one go. I haven't tested it out yet, but I have kaspersky and it'll warn me about anything a program does that it suspicious. I did a test and nothing bad. linky
