Balancing PvE grind with PvP balance: Inspiration from MasterXMaster

Skip to idea if you just want to hear my suggestion and don't care about master x master. First of all, I've only played maybe 20 hours of master x master. I'm only mentioning it because I think they hit a sweat spot with pve/pvp balance. What it did was make it so you spent currency you earned from doing PvE activities on leveling up abilities. Doing so would make those abilities more powerful the next time you took that character into a PvE mission. However, when you did PvP, it reset everything to zero and did the standard MOBA thing (kill, get exp, level up, etc.). The abilities were the same in both modes, but what you did in one didn't effect the other. IDEA: Give weapons this "ideal state" that the gun wants to be in for legendary and exotic weapons. However, when you get the weapon things are locked or sub-par. Using the weapon (or maybe spending glimmer as well) gets the weapon to it's max potential. However, should you take that weapon into PvP, the game will pretend that weapon is at max potential. This way PvE players need to grid to get that gun ready for PvE, but if they just got it they can still use it in PvP. Only PvE has the grind.

  • My suggestion is to have the perks unlocked with an 'Upgrade Token' that you get by completing an Adventure. This would make Adventure's relevant. A gun with 5 perks would require you to grind 5 adventures.

    • https://imgur.com/udvUvwc my idea would be of all guns having 2 trees, one for pvp and another for pve, they would be similar, and some perks would 'change', 'disappear' or 'appear' when player enter certain modes, just like if Shax or Zavala went and forced the guardian to do some tuneups to make it more balanced. it wouldnt make much sense, but Bungo already does this meddling so yeah... or we could make the guns like this.. https://imgur.com/FttQNeh just changing what the perks do, or probably how effective they are. I am one of the people who want mods to be more effective and be more centered in d2. but i know that they would ruin the grind, but destiny went away from the grind and more into instant gratification. and maybe that was also due to the pvp balance, trying a unleveled gun in pvp would be unfun. but leveling a gun would be fun. do you guys remember of the necrochasm, leveling it from gray, to blue, to purple, to exotic, or the khostov. so many good ideas that got discarded, so sad. in the next expansion they could test two things, more powerful mods, and an exotic where you can put more than one mod. and also maybe a exotic gun that has a tree similiar to sublass trees, where you gotta choose the main perks... i just wish we got our subclass freedom back :/

      • So Destiny 1 until RoI but with reduced stats till used more? No to the second half but I am fine with gear leveling returning if they add a better modding system and don't make the required materials too annoying.

      • You mean like it was back in Y1 before people complained about the grind to unlock perk nodes on weapons and armor!? Dont get me wrong because i actually agree with this but so much good stuff was taken out of the game because instant gratification millenials complained about having to put in an effort to level up their gear...

        • i like the idea of leveling up guns! We already had that in a way in destiny 1 but only with perks. It would be really cool if you could increase things like handling, reload speed and stability by using the gun a lot (it would also actually make sense)! But i personally wouldn't even seperate pvp and pve.
