read if you played destiny alpha beta

...and let me know if you agree with this: Destiny 1 started off almost exactly like this. Vanilla was somewhat bland and the grind was atrocious. It sent you on an infinite loop of doing the same monotonous things over and over again. Then the raid came. People actually made three of the same character to get more loot and get another chance at those coveted raid armor and a sweet g-horn (thank you Xur for selling it week 2). RNG was a bitch. People hated that they couldn’t get certain exotics. -blam!-ing LEGENDARY ENGRAMS would turn blue. People were pissed and rightfully slow. And to top it off, they kept saying we’re hearing you guys and everything is on track. I came on these very forums and did a poll to see what people thought of the game and was labeled a sheep for expressing my enjoyment and thoughts of the game at that point: Halo mixed with Guild Wars 1, or something to that extent. I love D1 to this day. Destiny had problems, but we knew more content was coming. Some of us had prepaid for season passes and wanted to see that content. Guys, the third subclass option was LOCKED! And then came Crota (thank you for helping with Platinum trophy). Remember the thrall run??? How about the Bridge cheese and the heavy ammo glitch? How come the game runs like this?? Well guys, I want to remind you that D1 was also a PS3 and XBox360 game as well. I played the beta on PS3 and had played it on PS3 until Bungie had to deviate the two different generations of respective consoles. The previous generation was holding them back and needed to separated in order to deliver on everything they promised. D2 has to deal with PC now and i honestly think they poured A LOT of resources into rejiggering the controls and frame rate and resolution. Let’s not forget that they partnered with Blizzard and have an obligation to give PC the same game that we are currently playing on consoles. Again, resources have to go into these things. D3 was a very different game by the end. You could infuse armor and weapons, quest exotics were abundant and they were constantly toying with Crucible nerfs and buffs. How many kinder-guardians we’re running through the tower? How many of them are in there right now? I bought a PS4 for Destiny and actually had to take a break from the content because there was an overflow of it, especially by the end as far as introducing the hard more raids. Guys, vault of glass was my favorite thing ever (thank you for flawless trophy help) but never got a chance to do it on Hard because there was just so many other things i was trying to do. How many of you came back? How many of you never left? How many of those IM QUITTING DESTINY posts did you read? History repeats itself. i lurked the forums for information, even though they’re toxic, because through all the yelling and negativity, I believe many of you have amazing ideas (and cheese). i believed (and still probably naively do) that Bungie was listening and not making any adjustments to the sandbox until the time was right. D1 is still my only Platinum trophy and i haven’t even 100%ed the DLC trophies. I am so proud of that trophy and you can bet i’m going to platinum D2.yes guys. i’m going to keep playing. i have a 300 power level warlock (master race) and. 292 Titan. i’m starting my Hunter tomorrow because i have the day off of work. now why the -blam!- would i do that.. well, because i love the game. i believe they’re listening. even if it seems like they’re not. because i’ve seen this before. time and time again. call me a fanboy. call me a sheep. say Bungle is gonna fail because they’re not listening. Guys, i guarantee you that they are. This is the company that made every FPS game envious. Remember the term Halo-killer? Sorry, i never post and have been thinking about this at work all day. I know the majority of you won’t agree with me but I know there are those out there who do. i’ve seen your posts all day with 0 upvotes. i haven’t ever upvoted one, but i want you to know that i’m here too. Thank you for reading, A Destiny Beta player. so here’s the TL/DR: D1 wasn’t perfect. it never will be. nothing will be. And neither will Destiny 2. But i love Destiny 2. History repeats itself. Bungie loves loops. okay, now start the toxicity and name calling. oh, shoutout to anyone who played Halo: Combat Evolved on PC with an AOL dial-up connection (:
wow i feel old after writing this.
• It took Destiny 2 years to feel more or less complete when TTK dropped. Many people on the forums would say that TTK is what the game should have dropped at from the start and RoI really did feel like an expansion rather than cut content and to be honest I don't think Destiny would have had quite the negative stigma if it HAD dropped with that much content. Same with D2. Bungie had 3 years to learn what players liked/disliked. Some things were addressed, some weren't and some previously good decisions were changed for the worse. Its kind of disappointing that D2 is following the exact same route cause it feels like we have to wait another 2-3 years before it gets to where it should have been when it dropped. Had D2 (and in the future even D3) dropped at TTK size with activities, story, loot, etc then get DLC to add onto that experience I feel the game would be much better. Personally I don't hate D2. I'm just disappointed that its almost literally the same song and dance of the past 3 years. Sure it was good at first but I got tired of that tune and wanted something...a bit new. Seems like it'd almost be better just to wait until the Year 2 Comet or Year 3 DLC.

You started like you were making a point, and then just started patting yourself on the back, and never stopped. Most of us were D1 beta players. Played through all 3 years. You got to 300 light on one character? Wow. Thats impressive. Glad to see you are almost at the max level.

  • I enjoyed D1 vanilla much more than D2 vanilla. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

  • Never Forget. Lied about the story. (Activision made them change it a year before launch after they worked on it for several years. In doing so it messed up the game, lore, and story. They also cut the intended game up and sold 2 DLCs that were originally part of the whole D1 game.) They had shown off so much of the intended characters and story years before release. Classic bait-and-switch. LIES. https://kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731 They promissed "Lord of the Rings sized story." • I thought this was the beta... When does the actual game come out anyway? The beta's getting WAY boring with the play test weapons with weak bland perks and terrible interclass balancing.

I am a D1 beta vet as well (also started on PS3 and went to PS4 with ROI), and I agree 100% with what your saying. Thank you for a mature and reasonable post. Everything is not 100% bad or 100% good. Lets talk about what we feel is lacking and what can be done (maybe) to make it better. I have posted similar sentiments on the forums these past weeks and been labelled a Desticle Shill or a Hater alternatively. LOL> ----------------- Lets take off our rose colored glasses here folks. D1 vanilla had this same backlash at launch. Maybe some of you have forgotten or maybe you joined into Destiny later. But this is just about that sort of hate mail Bungie got back in 2014. I can be disappointed that they didn't learn more from D1 (3 years of it) and that they have decided to predicate the same BS model of how things are done. I can be disappointed that they decided to remove so much content from D2 - that could have carried over from D1. I can be disappointed they didn't keep the game's concept of a 10 year campaign with no sequels and an ever-expanding world. With content added and added over time. I am not surprised by the salty reception they've gotten from the players on Console (and are likely to get from PC also) I am pretty salty myself. Of course, in comparison to 3 years of D1 - of course D2 sucks ATM. But this IS D2's vanilla. So take that with a grain of salt. Streams are coming, DLCs are coming, events are inbound. all of them sound better than D1's vanilla half baked Halloween crap (before FoTL), or The Dark Below (unless they don't have a raid in the Osiris DLC >____>) So let's wait and see. Just like D1 vanilla - things WILL get better.

            • To play devil's advocate. People want what Destiny became, and then more. They didn't want Vanilla Destiny again just to wait 3 years for the game to be finished.

I personally loved the grind in year 1, I know many didn't,made playing the same things over worth while. Made you do bounties in Hope of getting that exotic quest. I grinded four or five months for ghorn, could have bought the second week from zur,but who wants to waste an exotic on a heavy slot,OK so not one of my best decisions. Legendaries turning to blue sucked, but better than being handed out like candy every 2 seconds, they were something to strive for. Strikes are absolutely useless, there is absolutely no reason to play them, other than just to play. The nightfall in my opinion sucks. Timer is just a fake way to add difficulty, imo. There has got to be a better way to make nightfall relevant, how about special nightfall armor and guns. Give us a reason to play endgame. The raid,is actually is pretty good, but I have beaten it once and really have no desire to play again. The weapon and armor should be special and give you a reason to go back and play again and again. Massive fail imo. Crucible,I actually don't mind 4v4, play mostly by myself and do just fine. But I can see why many people don't like it,can't choose what game mode toplay, and should have other modes like 6v6. The token system exspecialy on planets is horrible, you can get legendaries,by doing nothing more than opening 20 chests and going to cash in tokens. How is that even remotely challenging.at least bump up tokens needed to cash in like 50 tokens. Events are fun but are way to rewarding, and made leveling up way to easy and made all other game play very irrelevant. I am not going to say the game sucks, and I'm never going to play again. I will keep playing, but this game is sorely lacking in many areas, hopefully some of this can get fixed. Want to make the game for casuals great, but make it for the hardcore players also. If we want to put hours and hours into the game these people should be rewarded for their time. There other things in this game that need fixed and tweaked, that I didn't even touch on. Personally I just want a game like D1,that sucked me into the game, hours apon hours.

              • I liked that legendary engrams could turn into blues, It made finnaly getting a legendary weapon very awesome. My final D1 exotic was gjallahorn which I didn't get until right before house of wolves came out, now I pretty much have every weapon already. #MakeRelicIronGreatAgain I mean #MakeDropsSpecialAgain.

                • I can't be bothered to read all, but this is nothing like D1 Vanilla, on D1 you could farm non stop without being punished for collecting loot to quick but on D2 if you loot too many chests or materials too fast you get absolutely -blam!- all from the next 5/10 -blam!-ing chests. This game is a -blam!-ing joke.

                  • I don’t think destiny 1 launch should be compared to destiny 2. There’s this small niggling thing called context that people seem to forget. Destiny 2 is the sequel to Destiny 1. Therefore it is perfectly reasonable to expect the developer to learn from the predecessor and improve upon it. Destiny 1 was more addictive, because there was always something to chase. Even if it was a grind to do VoG for the 200th time for a chance at the raid helm/vex/ghorn. There is no incentive to play D2. The reward system is completely unrewarding. Just because it throws loot at you constantly does not make it rewarding. There needs to be more depth and substance. They should have taken more risks. They should have doubled down on the RPG aspects of destiny. More choice for the gamer = more reasons to play. Instead we got token duplicate low level static roll hell! #RoseTintedGlasses #NoIncentive

                  • Thinking back to the early days of Destiny 1, from the Alpha to launch, the thing that kept me coming back and enjoying myself was simply having fun playing the game. It just felt good to go and mess around, wander the moon for resources and maybe luck out and encounter a public event. I don't have that same feeling with Destiny 2. I go to a planet, I can see exactly where a public event is going to happen, so I go there. I could wander around but I already found all the secrets because they're on my map. I don't really need or want planet resources because they do the same thing as tokens but worse. I could always agree that D1 vanilla was bare bones, but never disliked it because it was still fun and goofing off exploring would always be rewarding in some way. D2 just isn't fun. Nothing about it feels rewarding to play, so what's the point of even trying?

                    • you guys we have been trending since i posted this and i never thought a majority of you feel the way i do about the game. and to the people voicing their criticisms in a constructive manner, thank you. keep voicing your concerns and idea. i did the nightfall on my warlock and titan last night, warlock with two friends and titan through guided games. got to the farm with my hunter. i’m still loving this game. with the changes to crucible and the regression and everything. none of it is perfect or ideal, but i can’t stop playing. and mario comes out tonight..

                    • I love Destiny too. If asked to actually rate the first game, I'd give it 7/10. But I freaking love the world, the lore, the raids and mostly everything else. I'm frustrated with how Destiny 2 is in its current state. But like you I will continue to play, just because I personally love the game, I just want it to be the best game it can be, and right now, it isn't.

                    • Why is regression acceptable? Yeah destiny had its problems and people complained. It was something new and they constantly were making it better. Destiny 2 is a sequel. Why does it feel like a second coming of vanilla? The general quality of the game has dropped from y3 to d2. Since when has periodically turning your product back to shit been a good thing?

                      • Well said. I wasn't there all the way back, I arrived about when Dark Below did. But I've seen this game grow and evolve and amass increasing amounts of content. It's a work in progress, and I have no doubt Bungie is indeed paying attention to what goes on here. And I expect that they are trying to correct their missteps.

                      • The problem is even if D1’s state is drastically less then D2’s, D1 was just more fun. Balanced PvP has made PvE boring after you hit endgame and have done the raid. I feel weak with a bloated guardian, who has slow recharge rates and has to hide behind cover if she so much as stubs her toe on the battlefield. Exotics are mostly bland. All guns are more or less the same. Mods seem pointless and perks on armor and guns aren’t that great. Nothing feels special in the game. Not a big fan of destiny PvP to begin with but D2’s is far more bland and less interesting then D1. D2 just has no sustaining power in the end.
