Changing My Opinion of D2 for the Better

*For the investigators out there my main account is Kyllap. I made this one for D2. So I've been verrry salty as of late with regards to this game. I had huge expectations as a pretty hardcore D1 player, and pretty much D2 went the opposite way of all of all of them. I've made a few salty posts on here about how I felt. But I'm starting to change my opinion. Bottom line: This IS a quality game. This IS NOT a quality sequel. I'm not going to make some huge post about all the things I miss about D1. It is what it is. THIS game is focused on fun. And it is fun. In a different way than D1 was. Let me explain a little. In D1, many of us had fun through completing very difficult challenges. Multiple times even. Both in PVE and PVP. We paraded our trials and raid gear through the tower as a testament to our accomplishments. And they were. We prided ourselves on our number of flawless runs and raid clears. pff you have 10 HM oryx I have 50!. D2 isn't about that life. Sure there are armor sets from the raid and trials. But they don't offer advantages to either. They do exactly the same thing vanguard armor does. This has been a sore spot for many hardcore D1 fans. But we have only been selfish in that respect. We have embraced the very thing that we hated when Trials was introduced. WE are the try hards. WE are selfishly portraying ourselves as elitists without even knowinbg it. It's us who doesn't want to help newbs through the raid. We get on the forums and talk about soloing Crota. Well great for you. There are people who can't solo a strike, but they still want to kill Crota. Ever thought about helping them? On another note, D2 is just as much a collection game as D1. Just in a different way. And let me tell you. When I go do a PE with my titan setup and IB shaders I get compliments. Not joking. D2 is just as much a male fashion show as the series ever was. Go and farm tokens. Go and acquire that IO warlock set. There is actually stuff to do. Now I'm not saying that D2 is without issues. I hope that BNG can sort through all of our community bullshit and find what we are actually saying. But I AM saying that as a video game itself D2 is good. The end

  • A very valid distinction. Maybe they will give us a free DLC. If we give better feedback instead of ranting lol. Wasn't there a Halo game that did that? Have first dlc for free ?

Well, in some ways, it IS a better game. However, it's a major fail in replay value and longevity. In D1 I had a lot of reasons to keep playing, especially in PvP. I grinded that game for more than a year and a half. Then here comes Destiny 2. After a few weeks I'm done. I haven't touched it in a week now. They removed all incentives to keep playing the game. The gear is shit. The exotics are a joke. Even the decent gear, there's not enough. I've gotten a ton of duplicates in short order. I've already got the "best" gear pretty quickly. What's my incentive to keep playing? Do the Raid? Why? It offers no rewards different than a public event. Maybe not even as good. I did one Raid in Destiny 1. Got some awesome Raid specific gear that not only looked terrific, but it gave some pretty decent PvE perks. That gave me incentive to want to do another Raid. In D2 you get NOTHING!!!!!!

  • I still enjoy the game. I enjoy listening to podcasts and grinding public events for exotics and tokens. I like teaming up with people and chatting strategies and BSing in the downtime. If you look at the hours we’ve all put in, we’ve all, technically, gotten our money’s worth. Yes, the game needs some TLC, and I’m hoping the devs will give us that in bits and pieces. It’s hard work reading through a million complaints and implementing changes, coding said changes and releasing them in patches. And yes, some things have confused me: no specific raid perks (which doesn’t matter for me because I’m pretty sure I will never actually beat Calus—I’m cursed); the crucible playlists... what the hell? I just want to play control all day. I’m good at control. I like to be in... control ha. But I find things to do. Trying to get good at trials. Trying to go against the meta grain. Collecting armor sets (which is shockingly enjoyable to me). Tinkering with mods to get full elemental sets. And when I’m able, I like to try and help out other Guardians. I only got to raid ONCE in D1. After that, I got kicked out of every fire team because I had no raid completions. I could never find anyone willing to help me. And I always felt I missed a huge part of D1 because of that. But anyways: this game isn’t bad. It might not be what we wanted, given our snotty, devastatingly elongated list of criteria, but it can still be fun. And it’s still something different than COD, which is what most of these Guardians were searching for. I will say, to the devs, we need more than friendship. And to the community, I’ll repeat what many of you have been told: no one is forcing you to play this game. If you don’t like it, take a break. Or throw away your copy. Delete your digital file. Find another game and post on their forums. We need to... oh god... make the destiny community great again ha. I feel like so many of us are in such a negative headspace, our hatred will bleed out in unhealthy ways. Let’s remind Bungie they have a fan base worth catering to.

    • Rant Warning! Wall of Text follows! Thank you! This exactly! I never got to fully complete VoG until Crota was about to drop, never got to do Crota until HoW was about to drop, didn't get to do skolas until Taken King was about to drop, it's wasn't until Taken King that I could actually get into a raid team in a decent time frame cause of how the levels and our gear was reworked. Does D2 need TLC? Helllz to the yes. But they are trying to make this a game where you go to have fun, make friends, be a community, that's why the story was about rebuilding and reclaiming the city. That's why clans are a thing. But people shouldn't get engrams for just being in a clan that completes activities. Everyone should be pushed to help out players that haven't done certain things. Maybe they should take off the cap on powerful engrams, make more gear to find etc to incentivize redoing things with new to the activity players, so all the elitists can stop forcing nice fun loving people like me who are decent to good, to have to do all the REALLY hard crap like teaching the multitudes how to do everything. You know I took a group of fresh never done the full raid team of guardians, as one myself, having bits and pieces and we did almost all of it in one go cause me and one other person were willing to teach and Sherpa and be patient? This community needs more of this! Don't call yourself a Sherpa if you demand the person have knowledge of what their doing before hand. Don't call yourself a teacher if you kick people just cause they are having trouble figuring it out, and definitely don't kick people just cause they are kids. Squeakers and kids are two different things. Kids can be taught and can play just as well if not better then some adults. Squeakers, constantly talk over you, act like they know everything and constantly blame everyone else and can't accept criticism even when phrased in the politest possible way. People just need to play this game the way it's meant to be played, as a way to build a community and make friends. Activision and Bungie! Don't think I'm letting you off the hook either, you two need to fix this game in such a way as to facilitate the focus of community and friendship. If I have to load back into a zone repeatedly to find people to do events with, we got a problem.

    • I've been playing FPS since the 90's, starting with Quake and Unreal Tournament. Played COD since the beginning in 2003, had enough with the release Ghosts and Advanced Warfare expressing my opinion on their forums complaining like people here. Destiny has been a good alternative to the COD series which I've favored in the past. Only because I favor the old Quake engine over the UT engine. But, getting use to flying around shooting stuff. And playing COD I only played team death match. Now, I'm playing strikes (my first Nightfall), multiplayer stuff I'm still trying to figure out cause I can't just pick TDM! Campaign stuff I would never do in COD and wandering around on planets doing things to get a check mark on challenges. Got ton's of weapons in my vault cause I can't figure out which ones are good. Yes, shaders, fun and PE IB titan....don't know what that means, but I guarantee my Titan looks better than yours! I'm good at criticizing, but this is the best game out there.
