Don't get me wrong I look forward to Xur showing his spaghetti face every Friday and I hurry to see what goods he is peddling like a good little guardian, but its not very exciting or engaging. Xur should bring a lot more to the game when he pops up so he continues to provide excitement and anticipation for his arrival. Here are a few of my ideas for how Bungie could make Xur more exciting and engaging.
Idea #1
Give Xur his own full set of legendary gear including armor and weapons. This gear would be designed around the Nine but be different from the Trials of the Nine gear. To get this gear you would need to increase your reputation with Xur just like other faction vendors. Once you max out the reputation bar Xur would give you an engram that would randomly drop a piece of his gear with the chance for an exotic item. To get his reputation up you would need to kill tough yellow bar enemies on the planet which he appears on to collect exotic tokens. These tokens are then handed into Xur to increase his reputation. The story behind this could be Xur needs you to collect exotic materials so the Nine can provide guardians with a selection of exotic gear each week.
Idea #2
Give Xur a rotation of exotic shaders, ships, and sparrows to sell each week. The selection of these items would be random so you don't know what he would be selling each week. Maybe throw in some consumable items such as XP and glimmer buffs.
Idea #3
Create a selection of 5 to 8 exotic weapons and armor that are unique to Xur and only he sells. Out of these exotic items only 1 would be randomly available for purchase each week. However you could make these possible drops in the the engrams that drop in Idea #1 above.
Idea #4
The ability to purchase a Lost Item Map from Xur. This would be a very expensive map (similar to Cayde's treasure maps) that would be to collect an item that Xur lost on his travels. This map would lead you to a single chest on the planet that Xur is located on and would drop gear from Xur mentioned in the idea's above. The chest would be located in a far out of the way corner of the map and definitely not be out in the open. There would also be high level enemies surrounding the chest that you would need to kill to be able to get to it.
