Bungie Confirms Same-Class Alts, Are Being Hamstrung On Purpose
Been confirmed by Bungie itself. People noticed that their 2nd and 3rd alternate classes, usually meant to bolster their main Guardian of the same class, were receiving weirdly low power drops, even from Luminous Engrams, which are supposed to be weekly rewards that are well above your current level. 😱😱

If i have 2 warlocks and notice one doesnt get the powerful gear drop, does it matter which warlock I delete? My first warlock just didnt end up being my favorite looking character so i made a new one.

3 RepliesI am OK with this until one major facet is brought up: Clan EXP. With each character being locked at 5k Clan Exp a week, an alt is a major tool for smaller clans to try and maximize their weekly earnings to avoid falling behind rewards (Though, let's be honest the rewards are pretty meh). You have no grounds for telling people "Play one of each!" I paid my money, I'll play the class/es I want to play, and that is the consumer privilege of everyone here. If not for the class achievements, I probably would never have even touched a warlock in this or D1. It just doesn't interest me as a player. Now that my lock is 20 and through the story I'm already debating whether or not I will delete it and make a second hunter. Why? Because that's what I enjoy playing, despite all their current faults.

5 RepliesThe scrubs at Bungie make you figure everything out for yourself, then turn around and tell you through squirrely underhanded hotfixes how to play the game their way. Bungie is honor-less and pathetic, the game has always been easy to level up because the games is basic. The greatest shooter mechanics in a muttled universe of cohesive-less story telling and content. If Warlocks are my favorite class and I've been playing since D1 vanilla why am I to be punished for wanting to have three Warlocks to run the Nightfall and Raid with each week. It is sad when people agree that the "Man" should tell us how to live and others think that's fine. Bungie makes it's players figure every aspect of the game out because it's trite imagination in storytelling and continuity. They fear all would be given away with even the most basic of explanation, a testament to how they see their user base as a barn full of sheep. So I say Bhaaa! as that's all there is and ever will be to say on the subject. BHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

I am not fine with a lot of things that Bungie has done with D2. Like a LOT. But this - I am fine with it, it's not even top 50 things they did wrong.

You can still swap weapons. Now if you have alts of multiple classes THAT YOU DON'T ENJOY PLAYING you can level up faster than someone who has 3 of the same class. I was completely enjoying this game until about an hour ago when I found this out. Now I feel like I'm not sure if I even want to continue because I don't want 3 different classes.

Being as obstinate as i am i slready found a work around . I have to play the story mode up to level 15 a lot more but i sore all the gear in the vault of a low level titan and then keep playing and storing the powerful gear in the vault but never have more than 1 hunter works fine ...so thanks for the extra work bungie and kiss my grass

For clarification, I started destiny 2 with my two hunters and a warlock from destiny 1. I played my second character slot hunter all the way to the end, doing raids and what not with him, without touching the other characters (slot 1 hunter, slot 3 warlock). So have I been playing an alt the whole time since it's the second slot hunter? What or how does bungie determine which duplicate is my main? Because I deleted my warlock to make a new hunter since I grew tired of the way my second one looked (ever since the beginning I realized my characters looked "off" or different than in destiny 1, but I was afraid to delete them and redo their appearances in case I would miss out on any possible "veteran" perks) and I wanted to treat the third slot hunter as my primary hunter. Does that mean he won't be as good since he is considered a alt duplicate? Is there no way to choose whom we want as our "primary" duplicate without me having to delete my other hunter after all those hours I dumped into them?

I run one of each class so this doesn't bother me, but I do think Bungie should've been more up-front about this so people would know right away before wasting their time leveling up their alts.

Actually the gear upgrades once a week are fine ...if you delete and replay story all the blue quests drop even higher exotics and legendaries .

9 RepliesHere's why I'm ok with this: Variety. Learn to use the other two classes. I hated during the Taken King phase always having to use my bubble Titan because people wanted to run on an alt hunter or warlock. No. YOU learn to use a bubble titan so I can run my hunter or warlock. Now, that being said, making an alt to get better loot doesn't bother me in the slightest. If people choose to do it under that reasoning, fine. But please please please, learn the other classes. They are all fun in their own regards.

So you were going to delete the alt anyway.... unless you're telling me you never play anything else other than x class and try to get the same gear for all three because that's your kinky playstyle. So why play just one class over three slots when you can play your favorite class most of the time while having the option to play the other 2 when you feel like it?

I have a second titan because I hate playing hunter. Nice I'm penalised for my choice. (Joking. I'm genuinely not bothered because getting higher level kit wasn't the reason I have two). 😁

I had all 3 classes for awhile in d1, but around the middle of the taken king, i deleted my lock in favor of a second titan. I generally didnt really enjoy playing lock, and i wanted that second titan for the extra raid loot. Like, i wanted to get the full raid set for my titan, or just any armor set, and if i didnt get it through my main titan, id switch to my other titan and try again. I actually played on my second titan quite a bit and carried him into d2. However, after seeing this, I'm prolly deleting my second titan in favor for the lock. Since my second titan isnt benefiting from literally anything, i see no point to keep him. Even in d1 i couldn't just transfer everything to that titan and use him, i still needed to level up all 3 subclasses and do millions of quests and yadayada. In d2, both titans have all 3 subclasses fully leveled, theres 0 gear to grind for on my second titan that i dont already have on my main, and im not helping my light level either. Pretty sh1tty move from bungie imo, to let people make 3 of the same character but punish them for doing so.
