I had the same issue on my 2nd Hunter,so I googled it and found that if you have two characters the same,ie two hunters.. the first Hunter will get the benefits of higher drop,whilst the 2nd character will get drops below your light level. I think it's to stop people making 3 x same characters and power levelling that way. I only found this out tonight. My Hunter is 293. Swapped gear to my 2nd Hunter and complete flashpoint and the luminous engram dropped at 285.

Hmm.. would be nice to know that it doesn't work like that, you know.. Bungie saying something before you waste all that time lvling a new character and lose all those engrams.
