I don't like the double primary at all. There was something nice about having primary, secondary, heavy slots. I knew, when switching weapons, what to expect. My primary was going to be one of a few weapon types. My secondary was going to be one of a few weapon types. My heavy was one of a select few types. Now when I'm switching, I have no idea what my load out is going to look like. Sure. I should know what weapon type I assigned to what position. But there's something so much nicer about going auto rifle to sniper, than there is about going auto rifle to auto rifle. In this new set up, the weapons handle so similarly that I, as a player, can't tell which one is kinetic and which has an element assigned to it. I found myself button mashing through my weapons just to see what was different and nothing felt like anything special. I wasn't a fan of this change. I'd like to see the old weapons system return.

  • I like it. It gives the player a lot more synergy in their weapon loadouts. In Destiny I never unequipped a sniper because that was the best thing for bosses. And my primary was able to engage nearly all ranges effectively. It was boring. I only used my heavy for raid bosses. In Destiny 2, I can use a scout rifle for enemies at distance, my auto rifle for enemies that get too close, and my rocket launcher for gold bar enemies and bosses. And uhh... if you're running two auto rifles you might want to reconsider your setup.

I think it's a matter of preference. In D1, I was one of those people who ran around with a pulse/sidearm combination. I loved that combo, despite all the people who couldn't understand my appreciation of sidearms. (And yes, I would switch up this combo based on the map, boss, etc... but that was my preference.) I toyed around with various setups in the Beta. I gave numerous combinations a try. It wasn't that I wanted to run around with 2 auto rifles. It was that I couldn't find another setup that worked for me. Not even my preference felt right. In this regard, I found D2 boring because I felt stuck with my options. I realize we did not get the full game. I'm still playing D2 when it drops. I'm hoping the full breadth of weapon options and fine tuning Bungie will be making will help remedy this, but based on my Beta experience, I did not prefer double primary over the previous D1 set up.

  • I tried mixing and matching the different primaries in those positions. Nothing felt nearly as comfortable as it had been with the primary/secondary set up from D1, and I mixed it up quite a bit. I understand there's a bit of a learning curve to the new set up. Despite this, I still didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
