A Suggestion To The Developers At Bungie Concerning Progression In D2

hey babes Now, listen. I like playing Destiny. I really do. But my playtime takes a deep drop in times like these. where there's nothing left to do. I don't think it's a content issue. A newer player trying out Destiny for the first time right now would be drowning in content. But, veteran players like myself tend to devour newer content in seconds. Leaving us wanting more, always needing more. A veteran player who has acquired all his desired raid gear, reached max level and max light for multiple gear sets across all three characters, gotten all exotics, beaten every quest and basically done everything... Will be left with nothing to do. Nothing to strive for. What is he gonna go do? Run 350 LL strikes while at 400 and get rewards that in no way make him/her more powerful or are in any way useful? Sure running raids is fun, but he/she has acquired all the gear from it. That sense of beating a challenging task and being massively rewarded is no longer there. What I'm trying to say is that Destiny players, especially the veterans, should always have some goal even in content droughts or when they've done most of the endgame. Take Overwatch for example. It's a PvP only game but is one of the most played games right now. Why do people, me included, continue to play it? Because there's an achievable goal for everyone. Specifically Competitive Play. Climbing the ranks and getting better over time while also wearing your respective badges is a goal. I've been trying to get out of the Platinum Rank and into The Diamond rank for ages now. I know I can do it. I know I'm good enough. I want to have the big, shiny, professional Diamond badge under my name portrait. And that's why I keep playing. But in Destiny? After I've beaten the raids and most of the end game.. What then? I've beaten the hardest content Destiny has. And over a few weeks, gotten most of the loot. And after that, comes the period where I barely play and wait patiently for another content drop. And the cycle continues. What I'm asking for, is something to do, something for players that can achieve and strive for during and after content drops. Here's what I was thinking of. *Raid-Level Strikes with a Max LL Difficulty. Imagine if Nightfall were a playlist. More mechanics will be involved, and specific gear that only drops from these specific strikes. Each strike will have a full set of gear and a couple of weapons to earn. It will have matchmaking, but you have to meet the level requirements. *Crucible/PvE ranks and titles. Similar to how levels worked in Halo:Reach, these titles won't be achieved by leveling up, but by how much you play and how good you are. In D1, players usually judged based on Grimoire, but if a title system were put in place, you would have a clear indication of what they've done. And with each title rank up, they would get special rewards. *Make Factions more interactive. Special missions that are different for each faction given to you weekly or daily that yield exclusive rewards. That's just a couple ideas but you guys get the gist. How about it?

    • That first one could have been done with a playlist dedicated to the Prison of Elders Boss Missions (ie. Skolas). Something like that would fit nicely. I say this because beating any of the four grants you the Raider trophy.

I'm all for making lots of stuff to do long after you have beat the main story, but there is only so much a game can do. If people play 16 hours a day for a week, it's like scarfing down twelve donuts in one sitting and then complaining to the baker that you are out of donuts and have a stomach ache.

    • I like the faction involvement the most, they have always seemed pointless anyways.

    • The two best solutions for this that I see are randomly generated dungeons and reforging. The idea of taking a lesser known weapon and making it "yours" is something I've always been fond of, and reforging is one simple way to introduce that sense of ownership and creation. I don't remember a single gun I used before reforging, aside from my Three Little Words since it was the first real weapon I got. I don't remember most of what I used during The Taken King either. However, I do remember my 55A-Allfate, my Fulcrum, my GEO, my BTRD, my Radegast's Fury, my Red Hand IX, and even one I never got my perfect roll on, the NL-Shadow. And that's because I made those weapons. I put effort into turning those weapons into what they became, and that effort created an attachment that I still haven't forgotten. There were problems with reforging in the past, but a lot of that was based more on perk problems than problems with reforging in general. Of course there were standout weapons like Fulcrum and Hopscotch Pilgrim, but there always will be. Even now, without reforging, we have (or had) a problem with Palindrome and Eyasluna. It's an unrelated issue. The grind to get resources for reforging adds to replayability because you have something in mind you're trying to get and you can SEE progress towards that thing every time you play. The problem, though, is that the resource grind itself, especially in HoW, got very repetitive. The solution to that problem is randomly generated dungeons. It's something many games have done well in the past, some more than others. The Division, Warframe, to a lesser extent Minecraft, and even Pokémon Mystery Dungeon spring to mind. In some cases, like Warframe, the random generation adds nothing to the difficulty, which brings me to my next point. Difficulty would need to be locked at max light. Raids would essentially be tools to get to max light and to get rerollable armor and great weapons right out of the box. Hopefully also some other incentive to keep people coming back every week. But once the player is at max light, they can go to the randomly generated dungeons to collect a unique resource used for reforging, along with the standard weapon parts or equivalent resource. Essentially progression would work like this: -Do strikes, level up to be raid ready and collect important exotics -Do the raids, collect good endgame weapons and armor, reach max light -Collect legendary weapons that you want to reforge (probably from Strikes) -Do randomized dungeons to get reforging resources The beauty of this is it also gives some incentive for solo players to try to get max light, and something to do once they get there. The replayability is there, so even hardcore raiders will have something to do until the next content drop.

        • I have a few friends that are taking vacation days to play Destiny 2 when it releases. They are going to be bored in no time and guess what? That's their own fault I bet if you limited yourself to playing only 2 hours a day you wouldn't know what a "content drought" was. I would like there to be more activities in game but not because I want to fill a gap I created by doing too much too soon.

        • Don't call me that. And I have to toss in the concept behind Gears 3 medals to add to your list. If people want something to display or a fancy moniker under their name while in orbit, I say let there be some worthwhile medals to work towards instead of rng emblems. From completing a difficult mission and pointing your gun in the right direction to long streaks of consecutive headshot kills and sticking to cover like superglued duct tape, there can be a medal for everyone.

Here an idea: don't go putting 100+ hours a week for the first couple of weeks in to this or any game when new content comes out. It's that damn easy not to run out of content. It's not a veteran problem; it's a problem for people with terrible time management.

            • Destiny 2 will have more frequent content drops according to various sources, so the content drought should be lessened. As far as eating through content quickly, that's always gonna happen. Not much Bungie can do about that except give us more content more frequently.

Veterans will devour content seconds, that's in our nature, but only a few have the capacity to consistently play this game for hours every day. With minor updates and frequent updates, hopefully people will have more things to chase. Even now I'll just play for fun, and here and there I'll get a nice weapon or gear to play around with :) ~TheGreatNike

                • Would be cool if they had fan made items like warframe cycle in to these raid level strikes and be on the loot table for a bit like a month or 2 then have people can invest more into the game the look will look more diverse and bungie can have a small portion of the work done for them. Darksouls had some items like this in the form of shields you could obtain in game. Would be fun and recurring with bungie being able to give themes for what kind of designs they want for any given time. Halloween submissions for instance being held for players to make a set of arms for titans, boots for hunter and a warlock helm. Would love that and it would foster a positive community as well as making the creations page a go to area for the community to go and vote for the the designs they like.

Leaving us wanting more, always needing more.
And therein lies the issue, y'all need to take breaks from Destiny sometimes, especially during content droughts. There are plenty of good single player games you can enjoy. (I myself have been loving Breath of the Wild's postgame!) Destiny isn't the only game out there. If you're devouring content in seconds, take breaks so that it doesn't become stale as fast.
