I woke to the harsh sound of an alarm. I sat up and looked around as Charles screamed and stumbled off the desk, being buried in the shackle chain on the floor. The walls sported red flashing lights and an Awoken female spoke over the comms. "All Guardians please report to their ships, all Guardians report to their ships. Multiple vessels inbound and targeting the Outpost. Move out immediately." I scrambled up and willed my armor on. I grabbed Charles and sprinted out the door. I saw Angelica, Sri, and Kate doing the same. We all made our way to the hangers and the Guards barked at us to get in. "We need you all in your ships and moving now! We have Crows out there but they won't last very long." They slammed buttons and keypads to get our ships to appear. Sri and Kate got in theirs first and Angelica wait for hers along with me. She looked a bit terrified as she gazed out into the Reef. "We will be fine." I said with confidence. "I'm sure Elizabeth will help you out." "Unless we all get shot out of space." Charles said miserably. Angelica nodded and warped into her ship as it came up. I did the same. It was a standard fighter style with a nice red paint job and simple armaments. I powered it on, remembering the flight simulations we did back at the Academy. I sped out of the hanger into the Reef. After maneuvering around several piles of scrap I saw the enemies. There were only a few dozen ships, Hive based by the looks of them. They were small and quick fighters that could easily strafe and dodge in space. I locked onto one ship as I heard a familiar voice in my comms. "Hey rooks? I wouldn't aim for the side, hit those thrusters or cockpit areas. Either kill them immediately or keep them dead in space so the Awoken can get some 'research' done." Cayde-6 said with some confidence. "What a pleasant surprise..." Said Amelia over the comms. "Oh is it? You think I would miss a dog fight? Geez I know I'm not that predictable but come on..." "I beg to differ." Ikora said with a slight tone in her voice. "Alrighty then what did I have for...." "Two cans of oil." "You know you really need to get a better hobby..." "Enough of this." Zavala interjected. "Guardians, take those ships out and be quick about it. The Outpost can't take anymore hits." "Roger that." I said as I fired on one ship. I hit it right in the cockpit and the ship spun out and landed in a destroyed vessel before exploding. "See? I told you this would be an excellent view." Cayde said and he made a sound like he was stretching. "Can't get a better view except for in the battle yourself." "If that's your dropping hints Cayde, then no you can't go." Ikora said. "Oh come on! I could get there no problem! And besides they could use a little more help." "I think they can handle the situation." Zavala said as I saw Sri's ship obliterate one of the enemy fighters. "... Well... They may need it..." Cayde said with a cough. I smiled and continued to fight our way through the battle. Charles looked at me from the dash. "So ah... can I get out of this now?" He shook the shackle in emphasis. "No way. I don't want you driving." "Please?! I won't touch anything." "I seriously doubt that." "Come on! I just want to get out of this chain!!" "We will get to it when we get o..." "Watch it!!" Charles screeched as a Hive ship zoomed in to fire. I quickly dodged and maneuvered around some rubbish in the nick of time. "Be careful Guardian!" Cayde said. "See? You need my assistance!" Charles said excitedly. I shook my head. "I swear if we die I will kill you later." I grabbed the shackle and broke it, letting him squirm out. "Freedom!!" He looked to the dash. "Let's go then." "Oh no. I drive and shoot, you just warn me." "Your no fun!" "I'm trying to..." Before I could finish, Charles took control and steered us out of the way of some scrap. "Well pay attention then!" "I hate you so much you know that?" I steered back towards the battle and fired on some ships to grab their attention. They took off after me as I maneuvered around some debris. "I got some on my six, I can't shake em." Two fighters, Rex and Kate's, came up and took care of them as I zoomed back to battle. "Be careful." Rex said, his voice back to normal than from yesterday. "We can't save you everytime." "Noted." I throttled it full and took off for more of them. Charles took the liberty of aiming at one and firing a missle. "Charles!" "Hey it hit!" He said as the ship exploded. "Fine... but no more." "Then let me drive!" "No!" "I got some I can't see!" Angelica said. I rushed that way and took them out. "I still think I should go..." Cayde said. "No." Zavala gave his reply with some anger. "We are not getting out there." "Come on! It be just like the old days! Me and you buddy!" "We need to stay here and that is final." "Killjoy..." I shook my head. Charles grunted. "They sound worse than me and you." "What was that Ghost?" Cayde said with annoyance. "Nothing nothing." Charles said stifling a laugh. "I'll have you know we are the best of friends and we would do anything for the other. Right Zavala?" "While that is true, sweet talking will get you nowhere in this discussion." "Why not?!" "Because this discussion is over." Cayde sighed. "I really need to get out of this Tower..." "Let the team concentrate you two." Ikora said. I grinned and continued the fight. Charles began to actively help more and more in good ways. After a bit we were helping each other out fluently. We came up on a ship. "Target located." Charles said, leaning forward. "Fire when ready." I maneuvered my way around for him to get a better view. Charles waited several seconds before firing and let two missles fly. They stuck the tail and thrusters and set the craft flying off into some debris. "Ha! Take that!!" "Alright the ships are almost gone." Cayde said. "Just finish taking them out." "I'd say that was a job well done. High five?" Charles held up a part of his shell. I grinned and tapped it with my finger. "Yea!! That was a high one but close enough!!" He laughed as we made our way to the next target. He aimed up and hit a button. Our ship suddenly went still and powered down to a low state. I paused and looked around. "What did you do?..." He blinked. "Well... I thought I pushed the fire button..." He looked at the panel. "Did I turn us off?" The ship suddenly began to correct itself and aimed for space. "Charles?..." "Guardian why did you activate your slip space drive?" Cayde said with some worry. I paused. Charles and I looked at each other. The onboard computer beeped and set a course. "Stop it Charles." "Ok..." He scanned the dash. "Charles..." "Destination set." The computer said. "Charles?" "It won't let me do anything!" "Quadrant Zero dash four four two. Arrival time, fifteen seconds." "Charles?!" "Its not letting me!!" "Starting warp in three." "D***it shut it off!!" "Two." "Its not letting me!!!" "One." "Come on!!" "Launching."
