Is Boren's Syndrome a Real Disease?

As most of you will know, Boren's Syndrome is the disease attributed to Sergeant Johnson after suffering radiation poisoning. In First Strike, we are told that this disease grants him immunity to the Flood by interfering with his nervous system. However, this disease is speculated to be a hoax created by ONI as a cover-up for his Spartan I training. (I have read the Graphic Novel where this is explained so excuse me if I need clarification). I was recently re-reading Ghosts of Onyx where the rebels claim to have some members affected by Borren's Syndrome (I presume this is the same disease and just a typo by the author). So my question is if Boren's Syndrome is in fact an actual disease (I understand it does not allow immunity to the Flood). Halopedia says that Borren's Syndrome is a hoax and because the rebels were making these claims just to set a trap for the Spartans, and UNSC. However, if both the rebels and ONI both refer to this disease, isn't it possible that it is a real disease but its conditions are just a cover-up?

 •
Posted by: Lord Snakie Stoppit, all of you posting things that aren't what I think. It makes sense for it to be a real disease. If they were going to cover up Johnson's state with anything but a real disease it might look more than a little suspicious to a genius like Halsey, but she never thought much more of it.
I doubt plasma exposure was a common thing back in Johnson's day, and so it being a new disease wouldn't be terribly suspicious. Remember, he's eighty years old. Creating a disease allows ONI to regulate the symptoms of it that the Spartan Is may have experienced as a result of their augmentations. ONI probably began circulating fake stories of the disease at the time anyway.

 •
Posted by: NILLOC Actualy it was a long term side affect of the spartan 1 program which Sgt. Johnson. It was just masked as the FAKE Borren's Syndrome. Or atleast that is what it says in the HALO ENCYCLOPEDIA. and if the book is wrong then crap, I just wasted 50 bucks.
The Halo Encyclopaedia has a bunch of inaccuracies. Boren's Syndrome is BS, in real life and in the Halo universe.

 • Yes, in the Halo Universe it is a real Disease. Although the authors have spelt it wrong in many different cases, its still the same thing.(Its not a disease in real life.)

 • it must be real in the haloverse - that some rebels were able to invent the same illness with the same name with the same symptoms and the same cause is not possible through coincidence. more likely ONI used it as a cover, but it did exist. although - the rebels had many informers and sympathisers in the UNSC, it is possible (though unlikely) that they had one high up in ONI who could find it out - use knowledge of it to scare ONI and the UNSC into action
