Stupid questions Theists ask Atheists.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against any person who is part of any religion. You can worship the Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster for all I care, but in some cases there are extremely idiotic questions that I, as an atheist, have been asked. Question 1: Why do you hate God? Answer: Oh boy, we're starting out rough. Atheists do not believe in God, or any god, by definition. Question 2: Do you worship Satan? Answer: See above. This was asked to me multiple times when debating a Christian my age at school. It essentially went like this: C: So do you worship Satan? Me: No, I do not worship anything C:So, why do you worship Satan? Me: I don't. This went on for about three or four times. Question 3: You worship science, so you can't be an atheist Answer: No atheists worship science, nor do they believe in it. They accept ideas and theories within science. Question 4: Why are there monkeys if we evolved from monkeys? Answer: I'm no biologist, but this one is very simple to answer if you've ever taken a 7th grade science class. We did not evolve from monkeys, but we have a common ancestor with them. Also, this has nothing to do with atheism whatsoever. Question 5: The Atheist's Nightmare (literally a banana) Answer: If you haven't seen the infamous Ray Comfort video where he claims that the banana is perfectly formed to fit the human hand, I recommend you see it even if you are a theist. It's hilarious if you can get the almost sexual undertones it has. The shape, color, and texture of a banana is the result of natural selection and by humans having genetically modified them over many years. Question 6: What evidence do you have to prove there isn't a god? Answer: The burden of proof is not on the Atheist, but rather the Theist. Evidence does not need to be made to disprove something when it is not proven in the first place. Question 7: Everything is proof of God's existence Answer: This is extremely untrue, as if this were to be an accepted argument( it isn't) then the universe could be proof of an inflatable pink unicorn that lives on the moon and shoots lasers out of it's eyes to make things. Science has reasonable explanations for almost everything in the universe If you have any more crazy questions, or a few questions about atheism yourself, then please comment below. Have a good day. Edit: Thank you for the kind words and intellectual discussion!

  • You're stretching pretty far with some of these questions. The majority of people (theists and atheists) aren't that stupid.

And they think that faith alone proves a god exists.

      • Thiest dont really have an issue with your lack of faith. Its more that its part of there religion to spread their faith. Therefore, they approach people (atheists) and talk with them about their faith and how they should also have faith. Some just are really aggressive and shove it down your throat while others dont do it so harshly. Depends on the person. But i hate when it get stereotyped so often. Just because one person is aggressive/disrespectful in sharing there faith somehow classifies all other people of that faith as aggressive and disrespectful. Thats the part that gets me upset.

        • I think there's not really a reason not to believe in God, because if there is a god and you believe in him, great. If there is and you don't, that sucks. If there isn't and you do believe, you lose absolutely nothing. You lose nothing not believing, but logically it just seems better to believe. You do you though, more power to ya!

          • Are you an atheist or an agnostic? I know the technical differences and terminology can be pretty convoluted. But, just in e popular usage of the terms, atheist or agnostic? I can't understand why someone would be an atheist, personally. I think the metaphor in Life of Pi is pretty spot on. Why choose to believe everything is meaningless? That is the logical conclusion of atheism, right? Sure people will say we can "create our own meanings," but then you're just advocating your personal religion as opposed to a popular one. I'm rambling. Let me rephrase: If reason tells us we cannot know whether God and the afterlife exists, why choose to believe the bleakest alternative? I understand individual criticisms about religions or religious thought. I don't understand the blanket rejection of the only good alternative.

A monkey's massive jaw strength fuses the skull plates very early in life, stopping brain development early. Without the powerful jaws, their brains were able to develop much farther.

                      • I am Christian, but I actually believe that evolution happened, and look to science for explanation on a lot of things. I just feel like the universe is too complicated for this to even be a coincidence. The complexity of the human brain/body, how we're able to think and make such amazing stuff. If you think about it, the fact that we're able to even breath is incredible. If one little thing in our bodies changed, it would be completely different. I think it's all just a bit too coincidental, and that something had to have made us. If you gave a million monkeys each a typewriter, the chances that they'd type out a line from a Shakespeare play with proper grammar and spelling is incredibly low, right? The chances of an enormous explosion creating a sentient and intelligent race is exponentially lower. It's just incredible.

Q.5 The bananas we buy at the grocery store fit our hands perfectly because over time we selectively bred the best ones to create a more convenient product, just as we've done with countless other plants and animals. Natural wild bananas, as god made them( lol), are tiny and full of huge seeds, inedible by todays standards. Google a 'wild banana' image search to find comparisons. The banana argument, like so many other religious arguments, requires ignorance to work.

And to this extent, I have chosen to believe in borderline deism. It's simple: God created the Earth, and by further assumption the universe, as though it were a pocket watch. He wound it up and let go of it so that it would be all on its own.

                                            • I have no problem with others believing in a god, so long as they're willing to respect the right for others to have their own beliefs. However, a solid 20-40% of the theists that I've met have seemed to have major issues with my lack of faith. To those people, I say this: Does your religion not preach tolerance? Love? Does it not tell you to treat others with respect, whether you agree with their every ideal or not? You refuse to respect people of other religions and cultures, yet you still seem to think you're righteous as you blatantly disregard the teachings you demand we follow. If we're all going to burn for heresy, where do you think you're going to be?
