The speaker is not evil but...
He is/ was the first guardian or "risen" to be created. If there has always has been a speaker and the risen were created after the collapse it's safe to assume the speaker was the very first of his kind AND he holds the soul of the traveler. This "speaker" has always existed and has the ability to commune with the traveler yet we don't know how he got this power to talk to a dead god. The god (or traveler) is not dead but merely he changed forms and is now the speaker. The traveler was the first ghost so-to-speak and his choice was this form (referring to the speaker) and he imbued this form with his soul. This is why there has always been a speaker because the speaker was the first risen and the speaker IS the traveler.

2) I know this has no basis but is still a cool idea that I thought up. Most likely isn't true but still a cool idea.

The Speaker very well could be the first Guardian, you're right about that. We do know is is not the reincarnation of the Traveler, and does not have its "soul" in him. However, it's been said that he receives visions from the Traveler (explaining the Dreams of Alpha Lupi) and his Light is strong. He also has a strong connecting with Ghosts and other Guardians, clearly because of his kind nature and Light, as stated by his grimoire. The Traveler was not the first Ghost, but did create the Ghosts. The Speaker has a caring nature identical to what we know the Traveler's to be, and because of his close bond to it he was chosen to represent it when the City leaders make decisions

Possibly. You're essentially arguing that the Speaker is an **avatar** of the Traveller. That----actually would explain a great deal about the Speaker's behavior---and his steadfast unwillingness to allow other Guardians to learn about the Darkness. Even if such knowledge would be helpful to Humanity in defeating it. Its also one possible explanation for why the Speaker felt a "pull" to the Shard of the Traveller that fell in the EDZ (currently in Destiny 1), and why he suddenly goes "missing" during the Cabal Assault. There is a press release picture that shows a section of the Traveller starting to glow blue, before the Red Legion activate their device that cuts Guardians off from the Traveller's light.

And it's my understanding that this isn't exactly the traveler's first stop, which means there have been other guardians made in different galaxies or dimensions at different times that preceded us and the speaker.

I'm inclined to think that he is one of the Risen that truly believes in making the world a better place. His whole "I speak for the Traveler" schtick doesn't mean direct communion: he is saying that by existing, by doing what he can to help, is the will of the Traveler, what Guardians are intended to be.

I'm pretty sure he is called the speaker because he can communicate with the traveler. As another has pointed out, do you have any evidence that supports the theory that he is the first guardian to rise?

2 RepliesWe know the traveler was with other races before being discovered by humanity, so is it as well possible that there are other speakers? This next part is just conjecture, but as was shown in the D2 release we know that the speaker has disapeared. So if we go out and don't find him is it wrong to assume that by cutting off the light we have lost the speaker or as was the Cabals plan to capture the traveler, did the traveler make a Cabal speaker?
