Conspiracy Lore: Eris Morn

Here's what we know... After the death of her fire team on the moon (with the exception of Toland), Eris survived in the tunnels of the hive for many years. We know see has the eyes of a Hive. We know that she has abilities outside of the normal spectrum of other guardians. She carries a tomb husk; which she speaks to. She has a "connection" to the Hive in a telepathic sense ,much like an Greek Oracle, as well as to Toland (We are going to try to stay away from Toland's story). Eris has been instrumental in the destruction of the Hive we have encountered; guiding us along the way with her personal knowledge. Spin foil hats on please... How did Eris survive? In the Eyes of Crota Toland says "Do you feel your Light fading? They are offering it to Crota. Us coming here, we are the ones waking him." This stuck with me for some reason. Imagine Eris, alone in the dark, desperate to survive alone. I imagine here skulking around in the dark, hiding, evading, with her light fading. Toland is in her ear (mind?) explaining the Hive, the sword logic, the power of the Darkness. Light fading. How can she defend herself? How can she hide from the Hive who seek the very light she holds? To "hide" her light from the Hive Eris chooses to consume a Hive Worm. The worm sustains her after her light fades away; or in a much darker scenario she loses her ghost by consuming its light to feed her own worm. Eris feeds her worm like a scavenger destroying lesser entities of the hive and evading them with "trickery". Eris returns to Tower. The rest of that part of the story you all already know. The end of that part of the story has always stuck with me. "My Queen". We know in the Book of Sorrows that Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath fed there worms in different ways. Oryx through exploration and expansion. Savathun through cunning. Xivu Arath through war. All three of the siblings killed, plotted and schemed against each other out of love many times. In "Wormfood" Oryx speaks of his dependence on Crota, the Daughters, the Court, etc... How he has become dependant on them, and how difficult it would be to sustain his Worm without that infrastructure. Eris Morn sends us to dismantle the kingdom of Oryx in almost the exact order of that infrastructures description. Until, finally we kill Oryx in his own throne world; a "permanent death". "My Queen". In the darkness of the moons tunnels Eris Morn without her light could not battle the hive. How then could she feed her worm? Trickery. She tricked the Hive by becoming part of them. She disguises herself as one of them. In "The Gift Mast" Savathûn "flanked by her chorus and her celebrants. They trick their way onto Ana-Harmony in disguises, so that they might vivisect these dragons. The Worm our God laughs and laughs. For a hundred years Savathûn keeps secret covens among the Harmony." Eris Morn tricks the guardians of the Tower into believing she is a returned poor soul. Eris Morn tricks the Queen of the Reef into attacking Oryx head on. Eris Morn manipulates us into destroying the power structure of a third of the Hive, and Oryx himself. Why? Oryx had his Throne world turned "inside out" to have it placed inside the Drednaught to protect its exposure from his sisters. Savathun and Xivu Arath separted from Oryx and each other to become "different" shortly thereafter. Eris Morn used the Worm to survive in the Darkness. She used the guardians of the tower to penetrate the Throne world of Oryx; to destroy the ascendant Hive of the Court of Oryx, the children of Oryx, and then Oryx himself to make way for Savathun the Witch-Queen. Hive God of Trickery. You may remove your spin foil hats now.

        • Didn't Mara Sov know that she would lose though? I remember her saying (in the amazing cinimatic during the Coming War mission) that it was "all part of the plan", I assume that meant she was supposed to die. She also seemed to plan things for after she died, i.e. not bringing Petra along with her, even though Petra is supposed to be her war minister or something.

            • The Queen she refers to is Mara Sov, just as it Eris the Queen is talking to at the start of the TTK cinematic, her hidden friend who escaped from the pit is Eris. Eris and Osiris met with Mara in Ghost Fragment: The Queen 2 where they agreed to end Oryx.
"I have no wish to play politics. I have no grievance with the City, not anymore. I have no grand hopes to end the war, for long have I known I will not see its end. I am here for one battle, and one alone, because it is a battle we must all fight, together or separately. So I will warn the defenders, together or separately. I will do anything—" her low voice shook with passion— "to end Oryx." A silence rang out in the room. The Hunter kept her head raised, her ambiguous gaze directed at the shadows in the throne where the Queen reclined. Then a small smile curved the Queen's lips. "Well said." She straightened, and leaned slightly forward so the room's light fell on her face. "So let us end him."
In Queen's Ransom, Mara sends warning to Eris and Osiris after Skolas talks about Light-Snuffer, Dark-Binder. When Oryx is killed, Eris sends a message to Osiris confirming his death saying that Mara Sov was right about our Guardian, which is very similar to what Eris says at the end of Regicide.
“We have confirmed it among our number within the Hidden. I have asked Ikora's Warlocks to reach out, and they sense nothing. The Orb is quiet. On the Moon, his shrine is dark and cold. It is true: the Taken King is dead. The Hive's dark god, and his foul son, have been purged from the universe. She was right, scholar. Queen Mara was right. It is all down to the Guardians now. Let us hope they are up to the tasks ahead of them.” - Eris Morn, undisclosed report to Osiris
• Nice post. That's not far off from what I was thinking...but I hadn't included the possibility of her consuming a worm. Nice ideas. I do believe the "queen" she refers to is not the queen we visit, and too many jumped on that wagon too quickly. I think the hive have the answers to that question.

                        • That is much more elaborate than what I thought would happen to Eris. I was thinking she would become corrupted by that gem she got out of oryx's Sword when we killed him in our world

                                  • Or Eris is Savathun, and she has used her cunning to fabricate a story to kill Crota, then Oryx as a result, leaving a power vacuum for her to now claim while we deal with the cabal threat.

                                      • I've heard the basis of the "Eris is evil" theories about a million times. Eros didn't trick the awoken queen, she, Osiris, and Mara are working together on a plan. In one grimoire card, Eros has a meeting with a man that is too bright to look at (likely Osiris), and in another she says "Send a crow to Mercury, and another one to our new friend in the tower". Also, remember before the "Coming War" story mission? The cutscene where Oryx "killed" Mara? In that scene, Mara is speaking to someone, clearly. But who? Well, we know exactly who. Eris. Mara says "You and I know how this ends. We've known ever since you crawled out of that... pit." (Eris says that "five went in. One crawled out in the Dark Below trailer) Mara also says "Guide them, my Hidden friend. It is all up to you now." Two things in this quote: Mara addresses Eris by another name: her "hidden friend" (Eris is a member of Ikoras "hidden", a series of spies that give her valuable information about whatever she needs to know), and she is handing off the next stage of the plan to Eris. If that wasn't enough, in one of the new Age Of Triumph grimoire cards, when visiting Asher Mirr in the infirmary, she says that she must make her own path in defeating the Hive. If this doesn't confirm that Eris is NOT one of Savathun's cronies, I don't know what does.
