Their destination marker pointed toward the building Blacklight was near, the Terrestrial Complex. Barego pocketed some Spinmetal leaves beside the door and led the way into the building. They crossed the wide first room with power generators inside and ran down a hallway. They went around a corner and climbed a flight of stairs before rounding another corner into a small, shadowed room. They felt their Light strain as soon as they stepped through the room’s threshold. “The Darkness is growing stronger,” Sagittarius warned. “We have to finish this. The Array Control Station is in the next sector.” “Watch out!” Neon alerted just as a pair of Dregs jumped out from behind a column. Blacklight reacted the fastest, sticking a flux grenade to one Dreg with a well-aimed throw. The grenade whined before detonating and blasting the Fallen to opposite ends of the room. Majiraya crept up to examine one of the bodies. “These ah from House of Kings like the othuhs found neuh the Wahmind.” Barego crossed the room and ducked beside the doorway, peeking out to see the next room. It was long and lined with Fallen tech and containers, with more King Dregs and Vandals scurrying around columns. She caught Majiraya’s attention and said, “Blaze us a trail.” The Warlock nodded and summoned the Solar Light Super of Sunsingers, the Radiance. His body was engulfed with flames and flared from his back like angel wings. He channeled the Light into a Song of Flame that fed his Light into his teammates before charging into the room. His Radiance made summoning his grenades and Scorch hits quicker and more frequent, while also pouring Light into Barego and Blacklight to do the same. Majiraya turned the room into a molten furnace, tossing volleys of solar grenades into the Fallen. Nothing escaped his fire, and the sniper Vandal at the back of the room didn’t even have a chance to fire a shot before being consumed by flames. The Guardians walked through the burning room unscathed, and Barego and Blacklight picked up Orbs of Light Majiraya generated. The next hall was a lot like the first, and Majiraya treated the Fallen inside the same. Midway through his Radiance subsided, but Barego and Blacklight finished off the last Dregs with their guns. They continued to the end of this hall into a small room that led outside again. A large concrete verandah opened up before them, with rails blocking a cliff overlooking a fantastic view. Large control panels and small power relay buildings scattered across multiple levels, connected by flights of stairs and a long ramp that led back up into the main building. Fallen Kings were everywhere. At the railing near the cliff a Fallen Skiff was dropping off more Dregs and Vandals. On the other side of the verandah from the Guardians stood a Captain flanked by Vandals. Shanks hovered around like wasps near their nest. “Approaching the Control Station,” Sagittarius informed them. “This is it!” Barego broke from her team and lifted into the air above the Fallen near the cliff. Lightning arced around her fists as she slammed the ground in the middle of the scavengers, rippling out and disintegrating her foes. Majiraya and Blacklight ran toward the Captain, shooting Shanks and Vandals out of their way. Blacklight threw a grenade at the Captain, but it teleported away and let the charge stick to the face of a Vandal behind it. The Fallen frantically tried to wrench it off its face before blowing up with a couple of its allies. The Captain ducked behind a cargo container and ordered his crew to attack, but they were distracted by Barego coming from behind and striking them with her Storm Fist. Blacklight drew his Arc Blade again and zigzagged between the remaining Dregs and Vandals. The Captain fell back to the station’s large entrance, barking orders as Blacklight closed in. Four whispery Stealth Vandals dropped from the ceiling inside and intercepted the Hunter, but were blown back when he twirled into another Showstopper. As his Arc Blade faded, the Captain opened fire with its Shrapnel Launcher, catching the Exo in the squarely in the torso. Neon’s shield protected him while he regrouped and Majiraya followed up with his scout rifle, breaking the Captain’s electric shield. Barego climbed the stairs from below and added her auto rifle to the attack. The Captain’s shattered face mask spewed Ether as the Fallen collapsed, sliding slowly down the ramp. The station itself looked very similar to the one in the lunar complex, with computer terminals lining the walls and encircling a central column. They rounded the column and met another Captain and Vandal standing in front of an active terminal against the wall. “There’s the controls,” Equinox indicated. Majiraya lobbed a pair of grenades on either side of the Fallen, trapping them against the wall without affecting the controls. Barego pulled out a rocket launcher she got from Future War Cult called the Cure and fired a Void Light-infused missile into the Kings. As they stepped over bits of charred Fallen armor, Equinox appeared over Majiraya’s shoulder and flew toward the controls. “I’ll see if these codes still work…since, you know, you blew up a rocket near the terminal,” Equinox said half-jokingly. “OK, negotiating cryptosystems. Shor-resistant security lattice verified. It’s working!” The screen at the terminal lit up, displaying coordinates to Mars, the Moon, and Venus. The floor shook beneath them, and Blacklight ran back toward the entrance to see what was happening. Past the railing a mechanical cap spiraled open and lifted out a massive antenna on hydraulic presses. Three prongs ran parallel to the aerial, no doubt its folded-up dish. “Outside! The Array!” Neon relayed to the others. “It’s opening!” “Is ev’rything functional?” Majiraya asked Equinox. “Amazing,” his Ghost replied. “It’s activating.” Blacklight pumped his arms in the air. “Yeah! Go Fireteam Prote—” His cheer was interrupted by the screeching sound of rending metal. Mysterious green energy glowed in the air, and three long, wedge-shaped vessels flew from the rifts. “Hive Tombships!” Sagittarius warned. “Cutting through.” “Stay here and protect Equinox,” Barego instructed Majiraya as she pulled out her Vanguard Epitaph 2261 sniper rifle. “We’ll try to keep them from getting inside.”
