Im guessing the number of game modes were reduced due to the dwindling PvP population. It was getting harder and harder to fill up matches. Reducing the number of options focuses the players into more manageable match making.

Yes but skirmish was one of the better ones and a staple diet of people who play trials . Salvage is one of the worse game modes and it has a place?.
