I am not saying that the challenge is exceptionally hard at all, but most people cannot handle putting themselves in a position to fail the team. I remember back in year one, it seemed like every LFG post was looking for a sword bearer. Now we will need multiple sword bearers to complete the challenge. It looks like we will need 3 swords to kill crota, so at the very least half of the team will need to be willing to use the sword. Good luck with that. I can see it now, when the team finally makes it to Crota and somebody asks who the sword bearers are going to be....dead silence.

7 RepliesThat's not the issue. People were unwilling to run the Sword because of the raid elitism. People just wanted to FARM the raids as fast as possible, so they were unwilling to allow people the time and space to make the MISTAKES that are part of any learning process. ...and there was nowhere to practice outside of the raid. Because the issue wasn't the Sword itself....it was being able to reliably make the jumps necessary to first get up from the Well to Crota's platform.....then escape to a position where you could return for a second round of blows when the team put him down for that second time each damage cycle. But this is the consequence of that kind of elitism and impatience. You exclude people...and until you eventually have nobody to play with.

It should only need two people who can handle the sword
-
Yeah. I'm glad I ran sword year 1. Very confident now. I taught a guy two days ago. He caught on quick. It's not hard.
-
9 RepliesMy team was having more trouble handling the oversouls. I know theres one every time he stands up or whatever but idk if it was bugging out but its like there was a constant oversoul and we couldnt dps crota and the oversoul at the same time.

You can kill crota in one sword. https://youtu.be/LqC-wz7o0ck

1 ReplySwordBearer is one of those things like taking Golgoroth's gaze. When someone asks "Who wants to be Swordbearer?" you usually hear crickets. I didn't do Crota as much (because I hated it before now) but this happened most times. Same thing with gaze. The thing that sucks is that it's easy to teach and easy to do, but it's rare to find dudes willing to sacrifice the time to teach someone. Usually there's the one guy that can really do it well, and he just does it. Only way I really learned was being forced to by soloing Crota. Now, you need at least two or three. The runs I've done so far people are always hesitant. I figured this would be gone by now.

I feel confident running the sword. I just hope they can down crota and kill the oversoul in time :/
-
"Okay, I'll take the first sword. Who else is going to run sword?"..... *crickets*
-
It's easy. It's literally just switching sword bearers
-
completed it 4 times already with 4 completely different groups and 3 different strats.. so i dont think "most" is accurate only the retarded kind will fail

2 RepliesEdited by dgdesigngroup: 3/30/2017 4:29:39 PMAll you really need is an opportunity for someone to let you try and try again until you learn the mechanics of any boss encounter. There's always that one guy... (If you're unable to listen and learn quickly, then you should get the boot.) Crota himself feels a bit more intimidating than all of the other raid bosses because he doesn't hesitate to slam you with his sword. The timing is critical. Your team must down him as you're jumping up to slam him. The pressure is getting your rockets synchronized enough so that you can jump up as soon as you see them (right before they hit Crota). Then EVERYBODY focuses on the oversoul (Golden Gun is perfect for this). Since everyone does things a little bit different, all I ask is that everyone be patient and able to explain your expectations. Are you going left or right? Are you taking down the sword bearer by yourself or do you need help? And so on... I've been in both situations. LFG Raids are like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.

A good practice was the fanatic at CoO on the dreadnought, just in case anyone forgot 🤡

3 RepliesJust as a heads up for people, weapons of light now affects the sword. May allow you to complete in two runs.
-
1 ReplyI'm perfectly fine teaching others how to use the sword. I just need some aegis classes.
-
I've been having no problems. The last group I was in, we were short one swordbearer so we taught a guy how to do it. He learned in like 5 minutes and we beat the raid soon after.
-
yes most scrubs wont complete crota challenge.
-
not hard at all... beat Crota with a team of 393 LL ++... just gotta know how to communicate who's doing what.
-
If teams get a REALLY good swordbearer, that takes the pressure off. I was running it yesterday with an LFG team as the first leg. Twice I got Crota to enrage on my own but couldn't kill him with just 1 sword. However, when I scaled it back and left him with just enough before he enraged, the iffy LFG people were able to complete the task. If teams find that 1 decent swordbearer who can kill him in 1 sword, or who can at least do 80% of the damage, they'll pass.

I'm waiting for VOG... Crota is an easy boss fight in my opinion. As long as you don't die doing something stupid like having a dance party with the boomers. I think VOG requires much more team communication. People need to just be more willing to help others figure it out. If you took the time to explain it, sword isn't hard to do, just need to tell them what to do and let them try a time or two. Yes you'll wipe like 3 times... Oh no... the end of the world!
-
It's not that bad, and certainly not much worse than other raids.
-
1 ReplySword bearing is 100% easy now. Literally you cannot mess it up, the pressure is on teammates taking him down. Crota will no longer slam you upon standing up as he will call in the over soul. You just can walk off the edge and jump right back up to get hits in. You just need to have 1 really good sword bear and other can be decent. Send the good sword bear out first and they should be able to easily get Crota down to the comma. Second bear can miss 1 hit, and last bearer can 100% kill him. I have seen more fails happen due to the team failing to take down Crota when sword bear asks them to take him down, and/or fail to shoot the over soul.

Did it today. My very first hard raid!! As a solo player for the last year I got a good team through lfg. Thee was some luck however. First couple of teams weren't up to it but once we got solid back up he went down in 2 swords.
-
Ran it 3 times through lfg last night. Each time relatively painless. Although I can run sword so we only needed 2 others each time. Still not bad.
-
Most groups couldn't even go in for a second swing
-
19 Replies3 swords? Back when the raid was fresh, people did it in 2. Some in 1. 3 is just advised for newbies so they have plenty time to move away
