I took this screenshot, and it has me thinking. Zelda has the "If you see it, you can go there." motto, I don't want D2 to be like that, I just want patrols to be more fulfilling than just doing bounties and public events. Bungie did an amazing job with the landscape and draw distances, it's a shame we don't get to fully explore them.
Destiny is a shared world shooter/MMO hybrid, whatever, but it's so limited. They dropped last gen, so there's more power to do more in the game, I just hope they put it to good use. The way D1 is ending is how I think D2 should begin, with more openness. I can't express that enough.
Even with all the nerfs, complaints, exclusive content, etc. Destiny at its core is a great game. Bungie is a talented developer and they nailed the mechanics and gunplay to a T. I hope they don't scrap what they've built and ruined the formula.
I don't care what platform people play on, we're all part of the Destiny community and as a community need to push Bungie to make D2 the best it can be. Destiny, as it is now, is because we as a community asked for it, and Bungie listened. They delivered albeit bad timing. I honestly think Age of Triumph is a great send off to Destiny 1.
I hope Bungie takes that and makes it the heart of Destiny 2, with an actual story of course. Some people won't agree with me and that's fine, we're all entitled to our own opinions.
EDIT: Surprisingly everybody agrees with this thread. I know Destiny 2 is practically finished, but a game like this would be so much more immersive. Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone.
EDIT: Almost 300 upvotes and 200 comments. I don't care about trending, but it's nice to see a positive thread be on top for a change. Thank you to everyone who kept console wars out of the discussion. Thank you for being civil and proving that the community isn't full of salt.

Great post Op👍 I'm really hoping that Bungie will make an open world map for D2. The way most triple A titles have been open world like GR Wild lands, even more so when you do patrols.
-
Patrols are pointless now, the enemies are weak, there's barely anything going on and barely anyone else around. Think they should scrap the patrols as they are and take them back to the drawing board. It should have open world areas that are populated, with plenty of things to do, also needs to be challenging to an extent. Imagine flying your ship over the cosmodrome and jumping out to explore areas. Destiny has a lot of potential. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens in d2.

remove 'in orbit' we should spawn in to whatever planet we were at last. doing crucible? have a crucible social hub you go to while queuing for a match, same with a vanguard area for strikes, raids, etc. when going between planets actually fly there yourself. 'In orbit' just breaks up any sort of open world feel and slows down the game in general.

Edited by Wr3ckitR4lph: 3/26/2017 5:34:56 PMI've never seen a game deliver on the 'if you see it, you can go there' promise to the extent that Breath of the Wild does. It's pretty amazing. That said, I don't necessarily want THAT much openness in a destiny game. More than there was in destiny one would be nice. But there is a LOT of mountain climbing in zelda. You remember how frustrating it was to climb the mountain at the temple when rise of iron launched. ? Yeah...zelda was built for mountain climbing. destiny was not, lol

There's something about outposts, villages, interactive NPC's, etc. that gets me excited for the potential of D2. I think those things would meld seamlessly into the Destiny universe.
-
That's why I hope the original Otaku Article is true because according to that there's supposed to be actual towns and outposts with NPCs to interact with.
-
I agree. But at this point its too late to "ask" for anything, but time to "hope" that Destiny 2 is how we would like it to be, since they've most likely already/almost completed the game. I agree with your line of thought though
-
I'm hoping it will be better. More operating power, and a new engine from what I remember being said. But.....you can't ignore history.
-
I think it would be better even if they got rid of loading screens and you had to travel to the mission via patrol. A bit like how the division has missions to start just in the open world
-
I used to love patrolling. I used to love exploring and having a good look about. It doesnt have to be zelda size exploring (although that would be good) but having loads of places to go would be cool. I also think they should do planet bounties, so when you land on patrol, you go to a vendor for that planet.
-
Can you explain what would make patrols more fulfilling? What can they do to make it that way? It is kind of like saying they need to make the game more fun, with no explanation of what that means to you
-
They spent so much time and energy on making these worlds and yet patrolling is down right boring, sad. I hope it changes
-
No mans sky, destiny edition?

They could add so mant cool things with a more open world. I'd like to see them incorporate World bosses. There could be maybe 5 bosses on the planet altogether with Randomly timed spawns across the entirety of the map. Their spawns aren't set, so you could be fighting one boss on one side of the map and he could respawn on the other. These bosses could have drops that could be used to make gear (weapons/armor) with the theme of the race of the boss. That's just me imagining, but it would be amazing if that was in the game IMO

Edited by JOKERMAN: 3/26/2017 10:56:38 PMD1 has ruined d2 for me. I will never go out of my way in the next game to complete anything more than the bare minimum to get by. So if it is a huge open world I'm just gonna go exactly where i need to go and thats it. Why work hard for shit that will become obsolete.

Look how big Ghost recon wildlands is. I wish the Destiny worlds are as big. My friends always use "fast travel" but I think it's lazy. Your targets are usually within 6 kilometers. Think if Destiny worlds were that big, They could hide all sorts of things. They would just need to get rid of a 'fast travel' function. People are so impatient.

with the drop of last gen consoles, and potential pc port, i can see things like this happen. just so everybody knows, the ps3 has 256MB of ram. they had to fit destiny into that. just think about it. the ps4 has 32x more ram, and it's clocked much higher. I believe that we will see a more expansive destiny in the future.
-
I hope it does.
-
It's practically finished??? How long has it been in development?
-
Agreed

Edited by oleWhiskey: 3/26/2017 6:50:11 PMA little more open world and a little less PvP. Nothing against pvp. (I suck at it) but I wouldn't mind to have an open world to explore and that meant something
-
I would love it to be if you see it you can go there

Itd be difficult to make a world seem lively when you have to account for our jumping abilities. Its like playing a superman game, you can fly on top of buildings so they dont feel special.

Edited by High8ctane: 3/26/2017 6:31:34 PMAgreed. In a perfect world patrol areas for each planet would be double the size while keeping the the penchant for good design (RoI was a fail). Would be such a pleasant way to improve and extend engagement with the game overall.
