I hope Destiny 2 is a little more "open world"
I took this screenshot, and it has me thinking. Zelda has the "If you see it, you can go there." motto, I don't want D2 to be like that, I just want patrols to be more fulfilling than just doing bounties and public events. Bungie did an amazing job with the landscape and draw distances, it's a shame we don't get to fully explore them.
Destiny is a shared world shooter/MMO hybrid, whatever, but it's so limited. They dropped last gen, so there's more power to do more in the game, I just hope they put it to good use. The way D1 is ending is how I think D2 should begin, with more openness. I can't express that enough.
Even with all the nerfs, complaints, exclusive content, etc. Destiny at its core is a great game. Bungie is a talented developer and they nailed the mechanics and gunplay to a T. I hope they don't scrap what they've built and ruined the formula.
I don't care what platform people play on, we're all part of the Destiny community and as a community need to push Bungie to make D2 the best it can be. Destiny, as it is now, is because we as a community asked for it, and Bungie listened. They delivered albeit bad timing. I honestly think Age of Triumph is a great send off to Destiny 1.
I hope Bungie takes that and makes it the heart of Destiny 2, with an actual story of course. Some people won't agree with me and that's fine, we're all entitled to our own opinions.
EDIT: Surprisingly everybody agrees with this thread. I know Destiny 2 is practically finished, but a game like this would be so much more immersive. Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone.

I loved raiding for the social aspect. Meeting friends in lfg, mastering a raid and helping people through it. Teaching them every aspect and showing them a new standard of understanding and willingness to help, deeply contrasting the elitism we've all had to witness at some point. I know, I'm so humble, but I really do love that feeling. What I hate is gearing up to the raid standard. It's boring. I hate the mmo grind. I hate infusion and leveling. I'm all up for some perfect roll rng, but, even though I didn't experience it, I feel I'd much rather have the ability to take my armor and upgrade it through materials. Actual mmos have a ridiculous grind. Start with gen 1 equipment, spend dozens of hours upgrading it, next patch you do it all over again. Forget all that. I'll do it if I have to, for pvp and raids sake, but I won't enjoy it.

2 RepliesI dont want to be a party pooper, but be carefull what you wish for... Even a huge open world can feel empty if its not filled with life and things to do in. One example is Mass Effect Andromeda these days. Where you have huge planets to roam in, but are mostly filled with boring stuff you see repeated all over the place and the usual obnoxious quests "go there, put stuff on place and repeat that 6 times on different places"... I would rather want kinda "instanced" open world segments like Witcher 3 had for example with a main city hub for people to meet in. My dream is to have also open world PVP in some special areas, but ofcourse I also know what problems can this bring with it...

As mentioned in all the leak reports, Bungie is taking the route of giving us "towns" and bigger spaces to explore. More MMO-like. Just how much of "if you see it you can go there" they go with it remains to be seen.

I would like to imagine a conversation with shin malphur, perhaps even Saint-14. Maybe you could challenge one of the new "Dredgen" guardians.

I'm not saying D2 is going to be unrecognizable compared to D1, but it sure will be very big overhaul. Don't be surprised if they remove whole/large aspects of 'The Destiny Universe' or if they add in something totally new. Like everyone has been saying ever since the game came out, Destiny has a lot and I mean a lot of potential. It can go [i]any[/i] direction it wants from here. It[b] literally[/b] created it's own genre. Maybe they're going open world? Or maybe, they're going linear, since everyone wanted a better story from the game? How about a whole new leveling system? Or a new way of unlocking armor and gear in general? Bigger Vault? More like a whole new replacement that fixes Vault problems. Maybe they're splitting up MP from SP? A prequel? [b]Literally[/b] anything is possible. This game's potential is off the charts and if they get things just right in D2, it will be an even larger competitor to shooters like BF or the 'bleeding' CoD. Personally, I'm expecting [i]major[/i] changes in almost every aspect, from story to core gameplay.

Destiny one is full of broken promises. Destiny 2 is and most likely be the same thing. Even with the help of other gaming companies. The game is already set in its ways.

Regarding exploration, I think it's at a good spot with TTK & ROI. Year 1 really wasn't too bad either with the ability to hunt ghost shells.

4 RepliesI've been playing the new mass effect and most of my time has been spent exploring some pretty big "open" worlds. I'm not sure how it would translate to destiny but something similar would be cool.

Do you see that ,mountain, cave ,tower , crater, bridge, forest , lake, jungle,city and npc. If you can get past the invisible barrier you can go there.

[b]My prediction: [/b] There will be a massive open world for us to explore in Destiny 2, but there will only one, lone place in the whole world were three dregs spawn out of the same cave every 90 seconds. Otherwise, the open world will be barren. You heard it here first folks... ;-D

1 ReplyIf it is open world, then it needs to be more than a huge patrol area with the same few missions repeated I'm playing Skyrim at the moment and I've done over 100 quests and visited over 300 locations (most of those have enemies to fight outside of quests). I am probably only about half way through that game If D2 had somewhere near that number of quests / locations then I would be very impressed. The only problem with that is that I wouldn't want to run through it 3 times (once for each character); I'd only do it once. I'm not sure how they would get the balance right on that
