Comparing a video game to a disease that kills millions is childish. Can't you come up with another comparison?

I'm surprised at how many people are attacking you over this. If you wouldn't said anything else, everyone would've left you alone. But because you want to be a good person. You become belittled. This is the world we live in.... sad. All you said was using a word was childish. And this is what you get.

  • It's disgusting really. That they use the internet as an excuse for it to be ok is just as childish. It doesn't matter how it's spun. Comparing cancer in any form to something in a vid is something a child with no experience and no social sensitivity would do because to them the word has no meaning other than the "in context" meaning. If they understood the real pain and suffering they would never relate it to a game.

  • I know people WITH cancer who do it themselves. To them it's a word the disease itself could have been given any name. Cancer doesn't just refer to the disease anything can be seen as a cancer. Example: war is a cancer to the survival of humanity and it's planet

  • If you actually took the time to read my replies below you would see that I differentiate between saying "is a cancer" (like you just did) and saying something is cancer. I still feel other adjectives could be used but using the noun is where the problem in. The problem is that most people that try to use that phrase get it wrong and they need to understand what the difference means.

  • At the end of the day it's obvious what they mean. The term has been used since COD 4 and isn't going anywhere. There's no rules or laws against saying it not in the real world and not I'm bungies CoC so they are 100% allowed to say it. Now you can't say "I hope (insert person) gets cancer! THAT is against the CoC. I've lost 4 relatives and 2 friends to cancer in the past 2 years with another 2 relatives battling cancer right now. The phrase does not upset myself or them because someone using the word has no bearing and they are just that words It's not an issue for someone to call something cancer nor will it ever be unless you take it as one. In this situation the context they're using it in is blatantly obvious

  •
The term has been used since COD 4...
Exactly. By kids who don't understand the relevance of what they're saying. It's just a port of the toxicity of these forums. To me and others it's more than just words. There's deep meaning and suffering behind it and it shouldn't be used to represent anything in a stupid video game. It's ignorant and selfish. My relatives that are cancer survivors (and current battles) feel differently than yours. They feel it's wrong to use it in this contexts. To each his own then but for me I will continue to call it out when I see it.

Maybe if you spent less time worrying about random people's posts on a gaming forum, you wouldn't be such trash at the game.

  • People seem to care less about using them since it (generally) doesn't affect them/people they know

  • That's a variant on using the "a cancer". In those contexts that's marginally better. It is still my opinion that it's a terrible way to describe something.

  • Then you have to say "a cancer". You need to use the adjective not the noun. Learn to English.

  • That's only if you're writing proper written English, which is mainly used for professional works and not internet forum posts or even common dialogue. If you're gonna try to go the English teacher route then you should at least understand that concept. Btw, I recently lost someone to cancer but I'm not offended or berating the dude for his usage. Cowboy up.

So your saying just because it's the Internet we shouldn't use proper English? That's reduculous. Don't make excuses for ignorant people. Bottom line is he's not only using the phrase wrong he's belittling what cancer is by using it in a derogatory manner. It's not about "Cowboy'ing up", it's about Just because it's the Internet or a gaming forum isn't an excuse for people not to be held accountable for what they say.
