Does anyone know what Halo: Reach's native resolution will be? Back in Halo 3, the native resolution was announced as HD. But it turned out to be 640p which is under HD. Hopefully, Halo: Reach will render natively in at least 720p HD. After all, it is a new game engine. I don't want to get any hopes up, but 1080p HD native rendering would be really nice. After all, Bungie did say that Halo: Reach will take full advantage of the Xbox 360 hardware. So native HD resolution doesn't sound unreasonable. But yeah, if anyone already knows something about this information, then let us know.

After seeing more Halo: Reach Trailers including the newest campaign one, I must say, this game has to be in at least 720p HD. The graphics are way beyond that of Halo 3 and ODST.
Posted by: Sparty Boy 117 looks to be 720p, it was pretty evident in the beta.
Well, the beta doesn't exactly represent final game quality. Plus, the campaign mode usually has better details and higher quality textures than the multiplayer mode.

720p or Higher+New Xbox+HDTV Bigscreen= EPIC WIN
Posted by: dafin02
Posted by: PeytonP Oh, okay thanks. What about split screen? will that scale to 1080 too? because in halo 3 alot of the screen was left blank when doing that.
it will still scale to 1080p but that doesnt mean that there will not be any black bars on the side, i believe they do that to keep the field of view still looking good. also in split screen they normaly put down the graphics, like decals wont be shown and the view distance on objects will be much closer
Split screen should not cause any black bars on the side. You just need to change your console settings to 1080p and make sure you are using the right connectors. If you're using those hybrid Component/Composite cables, make sure your Xbox 360 is plugged in using the Component Cables (Red, Green, Blue Cables). And also make sure the switch on the cable is set to HDTV instead of regular TV. If you use an HDMI cable, then you're all set. Just make sure the console system settings are set to 1080p and widescreen. If you've done all that, then there should be no black bars on the sides of your screen. [Edited on 06.16.2010 7:56 PM PDT]
Posted by: Jax rulz Microsoft said that Halo 3 was in 1080p also, but it was really not.
Yeah, I just checked the Halo 3 page on xbox.com. It still says 1080p. I guess Halo: Reach rendering natively in 1080p was too good to be true. But still, why would they list Mass Effect 2 as 720p? Or Gears of War 3 as 1080i? Why not just list everything as 1080p? I think they're just listing their Platinum Hits games as 1080p. Not sure why. I don't think Microsoft did anything to those games to make them better. I think there's still a chance Halo: Reach will be rendered natively in 1080p. Bungie themselves even said they want to take full advantage of all the Xbox 360's hardware. It should at least be in 720p hopefully.

I'm surprised this info isn't out yet =/. I sure hope Bungie managed to somehow have Reach run on an HDTV's native 1080p. People say you can't really tell the different, but I guess I should be a videophile because I see a difference instantly.. Playing Forza 3 was an eyegasm for me seeing as it was the first racing game I've ever played in 1080p.. Reach is SUCH A BEAUTIFUL GAME we can only hope we can oogle it in 1080p =(
Posted by: dafin02 the xbox website says every game is 1080p because the xbox upscales to 1080p, halo reach is 720p meaning it is 720 pixels high
Not really. If you look at the game Mass Effect 2 on the Xbox.com, it will say it renders natively at 720p. As for Gears of War 3, it says it will render at 1080i. So I don't think it means Halo: Reach will be upscaled. I think Halo: Reach will render natively at 1080p. But then again, it is kind of too good to be true.

Yeah. They also said Halo 3 was HD, which was a lie.
-
na not really, its pretty much stretching the picture. but with LCD screens its best to have the xbox set to your screens native resolution
-
So would reach upscaled to 1080p look any better than if it was just 720p?

But that machine still does wonders!
Im no tech expert, so forgive me if this is a noob question.. If the game renders in 1080p, how do people with 1080i or 720p HDTVs play it? Does it get downgraded based on your TV's resolution?
It's the same as playing xbox 360 games on a regular box tv which only goes up to 480p. It just changes the game's resolution to fit your TV.
Ah ok..thats what i suspected..i just wasn't sure. And if this is actually 1080p that would be beautiful

But ever since Halo 1, each Halo game has always been a graphical revolution. Halo 2 probably had the best graphics ever seen on the original xbox. Halo 3 didn't quite live up to the cycle. But if Halo: Reach were to live up to that cycle, it should be in 1080p HD native rendering.
