Shotguns Will No Longer Be Competitive

This is coming from someone who hates shotguns. As much as I hate them, RNG shouldn't determine where your shots go at any time at all. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, my main issue is with the inaccuracy that shotguns get when fired in mid air. The second half of the video explains pretty well just how the mid air accuracy works now. I won't explain it here since describing it in text would just be confusing. My other issue is with the removal of the precision damage multiplier. Though this doesn't bother me as much as the mid air accuracy nerf, it's still another nerf that makes shotguns less consistent nonetheless. I think a good remedy for the removal of precision damage would be to decrease the damage fall off for shotguns, that way their one hit kill distance remains unchanged. TL;DR Shotguns are extremely inaccurate in mid air since your shot placement is RNG based. The removal of precision damage on shotguns has decreased their effective one hit kill range.

The angle of attack was essentially an exploit favoring pellet angle through the head (precision damage) as well as through the body. Shooting while in the air should also [u]always[/u] male a gun less accurate. They fixed 2 things with this tuning. They reduced the effectiveness of shotguns on several fronts (which is what people wanted) with 1 change [b]without[/b] reducing range or base power. Your getting on Bungie's case for being creative with the changes instead of just point blank nerfing range or damage stats. No one in that office cares whether a weapon is [u]Competitive[/u] because you sweaties don't represent the majority of players. They care about the broader balance. Now all you "competitive players" are complaining just like you did with snipers. Caught getting used to crutches and borderline exploits and now without them your claim your gameplay will suffer. When in truth if you all were so good you would just adapt. You guys are so hypocritical it's nauseating.

      • No, I do fine, they just take skill now... But aside from that, I wish this game could just be finalized and be done switching things around, Release the game balanced not have it constantly having its meta changed

        • They removed the in air accuracy so it would do just what it is doing. The goal being to make shotguns that are a one shot kill easier to counter. They are still good, but you need to adjust your play style.

            Is it just me, or have people forgotten that Fusion Rifles exist? "RNG shouldn't determine where your shots go" - hell, Fusion Rifles seem to have RNG to decide whether or not the bolts even fire, let alone where they go.

          • If you look up the stats on guardian.gg Rocketlaunchers make now more kills than shotguns. Sill remember the "Surgical Changes" and "It should still make fun wielding a shotgun" lies Bungie pushed prepatch. We see the results now. Shotguns have been eradicated from the game. And don't get me started on Fusions. There are now more white Tigers in India than Fusion players in the Crucible. Again, great Job, Bungie!

            • Now shotgunners will finally understand what voopers have been dealing with day in and day out. You can do everything right but the game decides where your shot goes.

            • Shotguns will be back once people realize that are still quite effective and they can turn off pretty easily any sidearm. People just using sidearms because it's the new crutch due to special ammo, but shotties are quite effective still outside airborne usage.

              • When you do have ammo, shotguns still wreck, perhaps even more so as few people expect you to have one. Had more than my share of shotty kills last night.

              • There are still shotgun rushers out there, especially on close quarter maps. But it wasn't as bad as before this latest patch. Before, everybody was just jumping around with shotguns and kill you mid air with crazy range. If you call that competitive, it wasn't a fun competition. It seems more like luck. Just jump around and aim and hope for the best you kill the other guy. In control, they don't even capture zones, they just jump around like caged chickens that has gotten out but couldn't fly.

                • The video said it all. While pre-nerf matdors were definitely OP, they were nerfed too far to the point that they lost the thing that separates the good shotgunners from the bad ones; maneuverability. The nerf to magnetism and precision shots was plenty to nerf for the whole shotgun class. The only shotguns that needed a range nerf was the matador class shotguns. Everything else was fine.

                        • I can't even be mad at bungie for doing what they did to shotguns. I used a shotgun when they were top dog, but I hated how it was the only viable special you could use on most maps. It's refreshing not getting piped down by a shotgun every 30 seconds.

                          • Sorry I have to use shotguns like, you know, shotguns. I use nothing but shotguns and this new meta for shotguns is well....Its mixed, but I have the say now that no one uses shotguns its like most people forget they even exist. People just run through hall ways and rush at you only to get a face full of buckshot and its funny as hell. Even though I disagree with people saying shotguns are useless I do think they went to far. My god roll shotguns barely works as a shotgun should. I think the problem is that Bungie only looked at the god rolls. Shotguns them self's aren't OP. This is why when the game first launched shotguns were seen as the sh*t specials. It wasn't until the HOW when you could get god roll weapons much easier when shotguns became a problem. Even though shotguns ( Or should I say Sh*tguns ) are barely working as they should even with god rolls its honestly better than suffering another 5 months with Shotgun rushers.

                          • I played the last time Shotgun... You can only play a LITTLE BIT effective on Maps with closed Rooms... Thx Bungie, for killing my loved Weapons. Thx Bungie, for punishing us to be good in closed Combats. Thx Bungie, that you listen to the mid and distant Crybabies, which can't deal with the fact that we out gunned them.

                              Yup, but only is there far less consistent reward for the heavy risk involved, but they basically are forcing you to be grounded A shotguner NEEDS to have some form of verticality to avoid getting killed, and kill the enemy quickly before they have a chance to expose you outside cover, now you are even more exposed, and the only good pounce is a slide. At my level of play, sliding often gets you killed because of how you come to a stop, or how predictable the line can be at times. Its hard to explain, but me and my opponents can track it pretty easy. So now a shotguner has no effective way to pounce, they basically made their only effective use, holding your ground and camping Not only boring, but fusion rifles do that much better, so shotguns lost their roll, and competitive viability

                              • I knew something was way off with my shotgun, this video was very helpful. I'm going to put my shotgun in the vault and attempt to get better with those horrid sidearms.
