But they're not on the other end of it. This is not adequate revenge. You can't say this is in the same league as the systematic deprivation of eduation to a whole race of people for two hundred years.

It's not right either way. And it's not "revenge" because the people who were responsible for the horrible mistreatment of blacks for the past two centuries are long dead. The blacks of the past two centuries fought for justice and equality, not revenge or further segregation, MLK would be distraught at the way millennials are attempting to make things "fair".

But the effects are still there. The racial dimension in the US is centuries in the making. You must see how laws in the early 20th century that specifically targeted blacks have a long lasting effect. Its not about revenge, but the fact is you look down all these posts and the common theme is an absolute refusal to accept that blacks in the US have been disadvantaged in any way, and the belief that a few incidents like this prove that generations of deprival isn't responsible for the current situation.

Punishing whites is a horrific and racist way of trying to counter the horrific and racist mistreatment that blacks used to endure and to some extent (albeit a small extent) still endure today. While whites do sometimes enjoy luxuries some blacks don't, it's not at the expense of blacks that they enjoy them, so punishing whites will not create better conditions for blacks. And I don't give a crap about the majority of comments, I'm talking to you.

Segregating whites and branding them as racists leads to more harsh treatment of whites, not to mention what already happens in our education system where blacks and non Asian minorities are awarded points on SATs while whites and asians are penalized, or how people of color are more often hired by employers because of their race rather than their merit due to quotas and public cries for "fairness".

But that's just a short term fix for long term problem. The issue I see here is dissapproval for the fix seems to negate the existence of the problem in people's minds. Ultimately, you probably wouldn't be in this situation if the US just outlawed slavery at the start. After 200 years of laws that specifically encourage segregation, you can't turn round and pretend its the blacks fault just cos its not working out so welll anymore.

I'm not blaming blacks and I'm not denying the problem, but we can't go back and change the past and our government seems to be doing the best job it can at bringing blacks and minorities to equality. Whites and Asians do not deserve any sort of disadvantage just because they happen to more often end up in better financial situations. Point me to an example in modern day society where blacks are still disadvantaged [u]because of their race[/u] (as opposed to their performance in schools, criminal tendencies, rate of premarital and young pregnancies, etc., all of which I'll admit do definitely create a disadvantage for them).

There's no laws keeping blacks in cities that happen to have high black populations, and illegal immigrants are "segregated" because every other part of the country has laws against harboring illegals.

Well, considering we just had a [i]black[/i] president, I'd say blacks are doing just fine for themselves, and like I said, what's been done in the past, and what everyone knows is wrong now, does not justify some flawed sense of vengeance today. No one's claiming to ignore anything, but you're trying to use the Jim Crow Laws as justification for explicit attempts to revive segregation, if you're trying to preach the importance of history, you just destroyed your own argument. Your first comment and every subsequent comment to that has been an implication of such, and if not, then you sure don't seem to think there's something wrong with it-- which there is. The call for a minority-only 'safe space' would imply a need for one under oppressive circumstances, those which do not exist in modern American society. This isn't helping a cultural agenda, this is a call for segregation in a country deemed a proverbial melting pot of races and cultures.
