Step 1 - Set in an alternate universe. Step 2 - Forget about the 1000+ Pokemon Step 3 - Go back to basics (Blue/Red style). IMO Pokemon worked best in generation 1 because there weren't so many of them. The types were limited, but still allowed for varied strategic choice. Further, you didn't need a god damn spread sheet just to keep track of which moves gets STAB on which Pokemon and if it was a good move given that the opponent is a dual type...I think you get where I am going. Less was definitely more. Keep the number between 200-250, with 6-8 damage types, and a variety of moves (not just special and physical). Oh, and cut that cringeworthy romance shit out. I'm 26 years old...forcing me to watch (and actively encourage) 12 year olds to act like that creeps me the -blam!- out.
