So I've never done a raid...

I've always wanted to do one, and believe me, I've searched endlessly on the recruitment page for someone like me, but the descriptions are always "must be experienced" or "know what you're doing". To add injury to insult, I also don't have a mic, and whoever wants to do a raid with someone who doesn't have a mic has a problem. I have 3 Siva Cache Keys, which kill me every time I go to my inventory, and of course the wotm quest, the needle in my haystack of quests. I know you get the best loot from raids, and it's fun as heck, but I guess I'm missing out. A lot. Edit: With all the advice I've gotten here (thank you to everyone who helped), I'm going to finally do WotM. So far, there's three people who'd like to help me, and I'm getting a mic tomorrow. Once I group up two more people, I'll do the raid sometime tomorrow or on the weekend. If anybody would like to join, just comment! (I'm on PS4) :) Edit: I can't believe it, I finally (almost) did a raid. I got two exotics so far, some really good legendaries, and on top of that, I had tremendous fun. I got up to Aksis phase 2, but my team kept screwing up, so we'll try again tomorrow. Overall an amazing experience.

  • I'd suggest doing the raids in order. You get to feel what everyone else felt and won't feel like a noob when they talk about the other raids.

    • Make your own LFG post. You might get picked up by a friendly group that can carry you and teach at the same time. You may also get a handful of guys in your same position. I've only run it one time myself. WotM really only needs one person that is not completely clueless. It will probably take a little longer with several people that don't know it, but that could be entertaining as long as you all keep your cool in rough spots and/or take a break when people start getting a bit edgy. Also, if you think about it... The first time any of these raids were completed, nobody knew what was going on. Even if it's a really cheap mic... I would highly recommend one. It simply adds to the fun. You could also set up a set of moves (dance, sit, point, etc...) to let whoever the lead person is, know that you understand (or don't understand). Like, dance when you understand, sit when you don't. That type of thing. I rarely talk on mic with people I don't yet know very well, but I ALWAYS have it on when playing. If I were to put up a post for myself, it would start something like this... "Looking for a group to help teach me WotM". The subject matter would contain any limiting factors up front (in your case, no mic. and no experience) and then follow with any positives (high powered weapons you might have that could be beneficial). Let them come to you. Not the easiest or quickest way, but you might find yourself with a pretty good little group of people.

        • Just a question. Any reason for no headset? I mean you can get a cheap one at gamestep or amazon for as little as 15 bucks or so. WHy not get a headset and that will solve the communication issue.

          • You can have a headset for $1.81 with free shipping. Without it you will not be able to call out doors, monitors, servitors, empowerment, or ask questions when you dont know things like where the siege engine parts go or where to throw bombs on aksis. There are a lot of dynamic things in the raid that you have to be able to call out and adapt to in real time otherwise one person can cause the entire team to wipe. I dont put requirements on raids and i dont mind new people but having a mic is the deal breaker.

            • Lmao I would send you my ps4 mic but you know. Giving out addresses is a little weird lol. I have done all of the end gsme content at their respective times and levels exceot WotM and let me tell you a mic and a group of people looking to have a good time and do the raid are probably some of the most memorable moments I have had in destiny :p I would recommend a mic if you can get one if not I'm sure places like destinylfg have groups willing to help. Good luck raiding :p

First , Buy a mic or use the one that comes with ur ps4. Second , go watch a few YouTube videos start to finish of the raid so u get a basic understanding of mechanics. Third, have decent weapons ( good primary, high impact sniper and ghorn or any high dps heavy is fine, Dark Drinker or Raze Lighter is optimum but not necessary).. Fourth, go on Lfg and post getting a team together, there's plenty of guys out there that'll help a first timer as long as he's got the basic idea down, this raid is very easy and fun. I'd be glad to help run u thru anytime just add me PSN is same as above .. or if u really wanna get into raiding and playing with groups then join a clan. There are tons of clans out there on this site in the recruitment section that have tons of sherpas just itching to help guys thru for first time

                  • You're not missing out. Destiny PVE content is literally shit now. There is no point to doing the raid anyway because if you get to max light then there is no challenge out there. There is nothing beyond the raid to challenge your ability as a PVE player. The only thing that would come close is the light level based Trials which is broken at this point because of the latest patch.

                    • Your going to need a headset. It's almost impossible to finish a raid without being able to comunicate. Raids require a lot of teamwork unless the entire team already knows exactly what to do and even then you will still probably need to communicate a little bit. As far as being a noob at raids just don't tell them your a noob until your already in the fireteam and in the raid.

                      • Worth the investment to get a mic. You can start basic for $20-$25.

The problem with no mic for most part you just need to listen and do what is being said. It's simply because everyone else will be doing that. If everyone is going left and you go right you're gonna be the one that could mess it up. With that being said even if you are fine with following g direction there is a part (Aksis 2) that means you become empowered. It is infinitely easier if whoever gets empowered calls out where they are. If you can't call it out you need to rely on everyone else looking around to see who is empowered and with everything else going on there's a chance you'll get over run. Other than that there should be no problem.
