Single player games (try to) leave a lasting emotional impression. Take last of us. Many people felt an emotional connection with Joel and Ellie. You go on this amazing journey watching the bond grow between these two. You might o ly play it once a year, if that, but you think about it, and sometimes the thought of the game is better than [i]being frozen by mei 5 times in a row.[/i]

Don't see why that matters. -took the world by storm -sold extremely well -completely killed the competition it somehow had (rip battleborn). -huge fanbase -tons of replayability -easy to pick up -hard to master -fun Aside from one aspect, that'd last you 5-8 short ass hours, it does everything great. I haven't even played since August and know this.

Change of times, the growing acceptance of multiplayer. Only titles, the generally agreed quality and entertainment provided by the game, and the fact that it is without a doubt the most popular game of 2016 all play a factor. It was bound to happen eventually, with the way that online capabilities and multiplayer have expanded so much.

Agreed. Overwatch is great but it's appeal is limited. Not only is it multiplayer only, it is competitive multiplayer only, and really only has one game mode, team objective.

Exactly, at least have it include a Single Player Campaign. My GOTY was Titanfall 2. Balanced, Endless fun online, and while the campaign was short, incredibly enjoyable

Goty usually goes to single player campaigns that are best of the best and are supported by a great multiplayer. Again, I just disagree with it. Not hating on it.

Your first point is true. But evidently 2016's best title didn't have a single-player campaign.
