Just change your gear before collecting faction packs or decrypting engrams. It's just a fun mini event to get some cool stuff, with the added challenge of doing some activities as a disadvantage, kinda speaks to the whole events lore. So I'm ok with it.

Not talking about packages. It is annoying when you forget, and you shouldn't have to, but it is doable. The problem is crucible drops. I had a terrible perk ill will drop - at 350. If it wasn't the FoTL, it would have been 390+ and infusion fodder. Instead, it was just weapon parts.

Just weapon parts? I got a crappy light leveled roll of like 345 and just infused it. -
I don't have any weapons below 350 that can be infused.

Yeah it happens, but once you finish the quest which should only take a few games, you don't have to wear the masks anymore, so it "ah that sucks" then move on

Sure, but this is a solved problem in game development. Bungie has chosen not to do this, which is questionable and irritating to users. Especially when they have events that intentionally drop light level.
