Now that we're back to the festival of the lost, with masks that severely drop light level - we return to the really poor decision on Bungie that the light level drops that you get are not tied to your maximum possible light level - but your equipped light level.
This is really a poor design choice. Extra Credits called Bungie out on this very issue on an episode. 3rd party apps know what the maximum light level is. It's not a hard thing to have in the game.
It's a shame that a fun thing like the Festival of the Lost creates this punishing effect by having item drops be influenced because we're wearing masks. That shouldn't be the way the drops works. It's sad that load outs have to be adjusted to be what is the highest light level and not what you want to run. It's sad that this is still how the game works, when this exact issue is pretty much solved.

Edited by SKILES85: 10/26/2016 12:23:00 PMExactly It's annoying I can't play the game with whatever gear I want. If I want to get the most out of my drops, I gotta use my highest level stuff all the time. They made so many changes in the name of variety, but punish people for using weapons or armor that are a level or 2 lower than their top gear. My fusion rifle is my highest level special weapon. If I'm in the raid and want to switch to a sniper, I just lowered the level of my loot. So I gotta remember to switch back before I open the box. For me, that's easy to forget after everything that goes on during a boss fight. And a loot drop goes from being a positive thing to a "MFer" moment. I messed up just yesterday. I thought the mask went over your helmet, I ranked up with the vanguard and got 350 stuff. I've done the same thing with exotic engrams before. They should definitely fix this.
