• I made an entire backstory for one of my Skyrim characters once. I'll put it in a spoiler as it's INCREDIBLY long. I was just bored one day and said "hey let's make a super complex character with a rich backstory and role play the game as him." It was fun. Thinking of doing it again when Remastered comes out. I doubt anyone will read this entire thing but if you do, I hope you like it.
Ace Ace was a wood elf who was raised in his home province Valenwood. He was trained at a young age by his father to be able to defend himself because Imperial officers often had their fun by bullying and beating on civilians including his family. His father didn't want him to be one of their victims. He trained Ace for a while, but was soon taken away by the guard for some ludicrous reason Ace didn't understand. He never saw his father again. His mother died when he was very young so now that his father was gone as well, he had only himself to rely on. Ace never had a formal education and only knew what he needed to. As he grew he fed his training into more, turning himself into an extraordinary archer and dagger duelist. It acted as an escape from the struggles he endured as an orphan child living on his own as well as from the empire. He taught himself how to survive on his own. He finally moved out of Valenwood at age 23. He moved there because (besides wanting to escape the Imperials) during his adolescence he realized he wasn't very good at anything but fighting and combat. Enchanting, magic, and even business-he tried everything but just couldn't find talent or passion in anything but fighting. Since he lacked the guidance from his father he turned to a life of crime. He joined a bandit group at first, known for their double striped tattoos across the eye. He learned and became proficient at looting ruins and caves, lock picking, and all sorts of other thievery. Ace also learned from his leader Conrad basic education and the history of Tamriel and all its provinces and culture as well as how to use and create fatal poisons. He learned minor alchemy this way but only ever viewed it as a tool, not a profession or something to make a life out of. He was there for almost a year and became very fond of Conrad, but he eventually left as he felt his talents were not being used fully as he was usually treated as an underling by the other members. He realized he was more of a loner anyway. Ace left with bad blood between him and his clan for no one leaves a bandit clan unless he's dead. Violence even broke out, but Ace managed to escape with his life. He began taking assassination contracts from people so he could use his expertise the way he wanted and be by himself. The Imperial City obviously had many people to be possible "employers". After a couple of years of killing people for a living, he got even better at his expertise and even in the art of stealth. However, the Imperial City soon took notice of his actions and lured him to a specific location with an undercover guard acting as an employer. He went to the location, an abandoned East Empire Company warehouse, because a rich politician who was widely popular among the city did his corrupt workings there. When he entered however, he was immediately welcomed with a half a dozen city guard and taken by surprise. He fought off and killed four of them and severely injured the fifth and sixth. Assuming they were dead he began to walk off. However, in a last dying act, the fifth and sixth guards ran up and again caught Ace by surprise. The fifth sliced his face from his forehead all the way down to his lower cheek. Ace staggered backward in pain and the sixth guard ran him through with his sword. Ace and both guards fell over. Dead. A nurse touring Imperial City with her husband from Skyrim overheard the scramble and came into the warehouse. She then saw that Ace was actually breathing but just barely. Knowing how corrupt the Imperial City really was, she immediately sympathized for Ace instead of the imperial guard. She immediately brought him into her wagon, unknowing of his murderous deeds, and carried him back to her childhood home of Riften, capital of the Rift district of Skyrim, tending to his wounds as best she could along the way. She still didn't know if he would make it though. Fortunately, Riften had a very talented doctor who did everything he knew to do to help Ace. Even after his expertise, the doctor didn't think Ace would ever regain consciousness. He was eventually moved to the small town of Darkwater Crossing because Riften could no longer care for him. He was cared for by the kind miners that lived there. Surprisingly, Ace did wake up from his coma two weeks later confused and sincerely scared for the first time in his life. He first noticed he couldn't see straight and he began writhing and trying to get out of the bed he had been laying on for half a month. Verner and Anneke, two inhabitants of Darkwater Crossing, rushed in and attempted to calm him down. He yelled at them and demanded them to tell him what's going on. Verner explained he had been in a near fatal accident with the corrupt imperial guard in Imperial City. Ace immediately remembered what happened and that they didn't actually know what really occurred in that abandoned warehouse. He played along and let Verner continue. He explained that the sword he was stabbed with punctured and collapsed his right lung as well as nicking a whole in his stomach, causing internal bleeding. Ace then asked why his vision seems off and Verner hesitated. Anneke then spoke for Verner slowly and almost frighteningly told Ace he had been completely blinded in his left eye. They could barely keep the eyeball intact at all. Ace then demanded they get out and he proceeded to scream and cry out from rage and frustration. His life doing the only thing he knew was probably over all because of the imperials. He continued to recover over the next few months and began to calm down and even care for the people of Darkwater Crossing. Eventually he became well enough to be able to move on his own and live normally so long as he didn't do any heavy lifting or exerted too much energy. He also got used to his one eyed vision fairly quickly as well. He slowly fully recovered and even began a new life in the town. He learned compassion, manners, and everything that his father should have taught him all that time ago. Verner and Anneke even became like father and mother to him. He told himself he would forever leave behind his assassin life and hopefully the towns people would never find out. After three years, he was back to normal and he began to hunt for the town's food supply. In this way, his fighting skills remained superb and he could still do the only thing he was ever good at. Ace was happy and content with how his life was going for the first time. One day after he had just come back from hunting, an imperial guard came into town and began harassing the towns people. Ace was very confused at why he was doing this and then he saw it. A double stripe tattoo above the eye. Conrad. Conrad had apparently taken the uniform from another imperial in order to get the drop on Ace. He had been planning and tracking him ever since he left. Conrad then gave up the act and immediately grabbed Ace and tried to kill him for abandoning his clan, right in the middle of Darkwater Crossing. Ace didn't want to fight back because he knew if he did the town would know he wasn't what he seemed and he still thought of Conrad as a friend. However Ace couldn't let his former leader kill him so he had no choice. He elbowed Conrad, forcing him to let go. They began fighting as Ace tried to talk him down and get him to stop. Conrad was relentless though and again lunged at Ace. Ace quickly overcame him however as Conrad was now much older. Using his duel daggers as he was trained to, Ace uppercut him, spun slicing his gut open and then continued to slice his throat. Conrad fell down dying a slow death. Ace then gave him the courtesy of letting him die quickly by stabbing him in the head. He shut Conrad's eyes and bid him farewell. Ace then looked up and realized all of Darkwater Crossing was watching. Before he could even begin to explain himself, however, a convoy of legitimate imperial soldiers seized him thinking Ace had cold heartedly murdered another officer. He was stripped of his weapons and clothes and put in rags as he was forced to watch himself be taken away from his new family who probably loathed him now. That moment he vowed to get rid of the empire. He was tired of them causing problems for him. Beating his friends and family of his hometown during his childhood, almost killing him in the Imperial City, and now this. All his problems in life traced back to them. He decided cutting off the head of the snake, General Tullius, would get rid of the empire, or at least get them out of Skyrim. And so without even realizing it, the ruthless assassin that never truly disappeared rose up and overcame Ace once again.
