There has to be a better way.

Hi, I am not popular or well know in anyway, but I have something to say. I and many others have been helping(or atleast trying to) people on the help forum. There are the same problems that keap popping up again and again. So there are a lot of people who have connection problems with Destiny and their experience is plagued by constant irritation and anger. The thing is that the help, to these problems doesn't reach all who have problems and it's not necessarily enough to get them to do the right actions to fix these issues. So, there has to be a better way to do this. Would it be possible for developers to find a way, to implement a connection test that would be done automatically when you get disconnected or you experience any problems related to Internet connection. This would lessen the a mount of people that havr to ask for help. The connection test could give the player straight forward information about what is wrong or lacking. I know there are the error codes, but lets be honest here most people don't look at those more than a second. So if we could get something like this, not necessarily for the current title, but atleast for the future titles. Here's is my feedback/suggestions, so if you like this bump and like the post to get Bungie's attention to maybe make this happen. Also if you have any improvement ideas, feal free to post the as well. I would be interested in them as well. Edit1: Could it also be possible to maybe link the results of the in game test to a help forum post. This would make it easier to show actually results and give more tools for mentors and such to give more effective help.

  • Local network issues have been around for... 4 months now? 3? Either way that is bad and mostly unacceptable. However a lot of people that complain about error codes on the forums do so without reading up on it. "My connection is perfect and Netflix runs fine" is as far as they go from diagnosing the issue. They either don't read the network support guide or they only try a single thing on there. Lots and lots and lots of people. Is it acceptable that a console game be such a pain to setup for the luddites out there? Not really, that's why they play on the console and not a pc. But the fact is a lot of the complaints on the forum (outside local network fireteams and weird days of larger issues) don't want to take the steps themselves to try to fix things

    • We've had local network issues since 26th July. Out of sheer desperation four weeks later, husband and I found a temporary solution. Both consoles log in at the same time, one stay in orbit. The other attempts to join, and on unable to join message being received back out of Destiny, close it down and put console in rest mode. Turn back on, back into Destiny and try again. It can take up to eight or nine tries sometimes but its the only thing that works for us (none of Bungies solutions worked). We're ps4 but apparently it works on Xbox too. Feel free to share if it'll help someone, just waiting for them to fix it now.

      • It's not a bad idea, however I don't believe a good portion of the issues connection wise are on the players, but on Bungies side themselves. My only wish is that Bungie gets out of the blame the community phase they seem to be in half the time in the #help section. Cause they don't seem to help matters much.

Been a big gripe of mine since day one. Occasionally work it into some posts on the connectivity topics. In the physical packaging or during the initial install there is no mention of the games specific network needs for the Peer-to-Peer side. During install or initial startup there is no network test to verify the needed ports are opened and properly forwarded. There is no in game connectivity test to verify whether the proper ports are open and forwarding properly. There is no manner of in-game help to advise players of the specific needs nor anything directing them to information on properly setting up your network. There is no latency test/meter for us to see in real time on the screen. While seeing actual numbers would be a nice touch, it wouldn't need to be anything elaborate. Even just a red/yellow/green icon of some sort in the corner of the screen representing our own latency to the current host would be a big improvement. Seeing it only during death or when we pull up the roster is not very helpful for tracking our own latency. So much that could have been done better and possibly avoiding a lot of the frustration people have. Players just aren't informed well enough and the problem persists despite the efforts of community members trying to get the word out.
