If Atheists actually believed what they claimed, they would be forced to admit our very existence is worthless.
English

False. Atheists can simply believe that the purpose of their lives is to secure a better future for their offspring (Your argument) ➡️🗑
-
"Securing a future for their offspring" is meaningless if their offspring's consciousness dissipates the moment they die.
-
Stop caring about the future. Time is a mental construct. Think about now and what you can do for your children at this moment Nihilism is easily remedied when one disassociates themselves from the needless concept of eternity and instead focuses on themselves and their life
-
That's stupid. Focusing on "now" is pointless if you forget it all anyways once you die. It's literally like typing up a huge 30 page essay, and then deleting the whole thing. Even if someone else was able to read it, they would delete it as well as soon as they died. You'd forever be passing down a "legacy" only for it to get wiped as soon as the next generation died, and it would have zero significance to you. You can't even have the satisfaction of knowing you "made the world a better place," because you literally aren't conscious at that point.

Your children will be the authors and their children will inherit the essay and over and over again
Even if someone else was able to read it, they would delete it as well as soon as they died.
That's not how genes and ancestry works
You'd forever be passing down a "legacy" only for it to get wiped as soon as the next generation died, and it would have zero significance to you.
It would have significance to you. You will have succeeded in creating an environment where your offspring can pass along your genes. Why do you think animals live and not just kill themselves? Our instincts of self preservation and mating are powerful things
You can't even have the satisfaction of knowing you "made the world a better place," because you literally aren't conscious at that point.
It doesn't matter if you know absolutely. As long as your children are happy, healthy and with children of their own, you have succeeded in the most important job on this planet: parenthood.

I don't believe that anyone needs a god to have a meaningful existence. And I feel sorry for people who can't see that themselves.
-
well that just got dark real fast
-
Existence is meaningless though
-
as an atheist i do admit that all existence is meaningless, and to be honest even if you are religious you should feel the same because there was no reason for god(s) to make us other than that they were bored or lonely and if they have a plan for us that is also meaningless since prior to our existence there was allegedly nothing else so there wasn't something they needed to create us to do and on top of all that there is no reason god(s) should exist themselves rendering the existence of our alleged creators meaningless
-
aaaaaand my crippling depression is back
-
note how i said meaningless not worthless, we have no meaning because there was no need for us to exist however you have value to other humans such as loved ones, employers and businesses thus you are not worthless. the depression gone again or is it rooted too deep?
-

We are but an unimportant species in the scheme of the universe. Many other types of life forms are much more potent and powerful than we are, not to mention more advanced.
-
No, I mean our entire planet, our entire galaxy even. Do you realize how small our galaxy is, in comparison to the universe? It's like a spec of sand.
-
Yes, our galaxy doesn't matter. Who knows? Our universe may simply be a section of a larger body of space, and because of that it would also be unimportant. As far as life forms go, however, we are extremely primitive and fight amongst ourselves instead of working together to better the future generations of humans.
-
False. Even in a mathematical sense, our existences matter. We are the centre of the universe as a body ever expanding equally quickly from all sides has its centre at every point inside of it Learn some basic Euclidean geometry.

-
We wouldn't, but yes, it is meaningless.
-
What the aerodynamical salacious penetration are you on about?
-
We have no cosmic significance whatsoever.

Edited by pokepatrick1: 10/7/2016 5:39:12 PMWait a second! Are you suggesting that you can't believe in God and also believe our existence is meaningless?!
-
And? Is that supposed to be a scary thought?
