I almost didnt buy Rise of iron because im tired of bungies half assed approach to this game.
Let us carry over our character to destiny 2, it cant be that difficult to rework the engine/gameplay and still implement the previous inventory.
In theory somewhere in that office someone has been working on this "10 year plan" to solve problems just like that.

You're asking for another expansion. You gonna pay $60 for an expansion? You want to play the same game with the same character, same gear and same abilities for 10 years straight? Are you nuts?

I do. just keep adding new gear, maps, update the UI and graphics and just keep expanding. I want to use my OG guns in 10 years and have people be like WOAH! how did you get that? What?? you got that from the first ever trials! its a flawless crate loot? cool! Ect ECT If anything i think we should keep out Emblems, emotes and Shaders, that at least should progress through to destiny 2.
