No Man's Sky investigated over misleading adverts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/37506501/no-mans-sky-investigated-over-misleading-adverts Interesting that even the president of Sony's worldwide studios has been critical as well. The reduction of people playing from day 1s 212,620 down to about 25,000 in two weeks is pretty telling that gamers didn't get what they expected.

  • The reduction in player base is also due to the fact that the game simply wasn't "new" anymore so the initial excitement falls out and those who aren't into a game for the long run will drop off. Percentage wise fallout 4 had a similar drop off soon after its release and it is by far a more story driven and immersive game than no man's sky.

    • Gameranx made a video a few days ago about the false promises and the investigation. It was narrated by Falcon and it wasn't the Friday episode. It was before that

    • I honestly don't know how they had the balls to price it at €60, you know he knows he -blam!-ed up when Sean Murray himself has gone full Bin Laden and hid himself away in a cave. Pure scum.

    • All the video of him saying things lack a time stamp. Which in this case is fairly important. Yes while the Dev should continue to updated the public on things they cut or added. But I mean halo 2 at e3 showed a mission that was never playable, Destiny told us you could walk to the mountains out there, etc. It's just become a thing that if it is said too far from release just ignore it because all Devs spit out their loftiest goals in order to generate interest in the game before they are forced to be realistic near release

Say what you will about the game itself (personally, I thought it was fine; not really worth $60, but not the massive pile of trash several people make it out to be), but what isn't deniable is that there were a lot of things that Sean Murray implied/straight up showed in a demo to be in the game that weren't. It doesn't matter if he never definitively said that "yes, these features will 100% be in the game", he still led people to believe the game was something more than it turned out to be. They advertised it to be a massive space exploration game with tons of interesting stuff to find and some sort of large-scale space battle system, what we got was a massive space exploration game with all the interesting stuff in only the first few hours, and at best space battles against a squad of 6 pirates/a couple cargo ships. Maybe this was more the fault of Sony's marketing. Maybe Sean Murray and the rest of Hello Games did, at one point, get all the promised features in the game, but had to cut them out due to one reason or another. Maybe Sean Murray really did intentionally lie, though I have my doubts about that. The fact of the matter is, because almost nothing is being said from anyone behind No Man's Sky, we don't have any way of knowing for sure just what the hell happened with the thing. One other thing: Hello Games's silence is both deafening and stupid. They made a few tweets after the game came out, talked about future updates, gave us some performance patches, and then... Nothing. Not responding in any way to the massive backlash the game is facing is bad enough, but the fact that they aren't even talking to or supporting the people who still play the game is completely baffling to me. Unless they do something soon, they're going to loose any respect they might still have. Tl;Dr: Sean Murray objectively did lie about the game, whether it was his fault or not. Also holy shit why isn't Hello Games saying anything at all, that makes you look bad to literally everyone, including people who still support you

        • I don't know why they're suddenly getting inspected for false advertisement when every dev and publisher does it.

        • While i knew the game would flop this is unfair. Nms is not the only game we know of that did this. A certain game also should have had this destiny

          • The President of Sony is trying throw Hello Game under the bush to distract the public from how BADLY they -blam!-ed up the pricing and marketing of this game. Sean Murray was the developer. Hello Games was the developer. Sony was the PUBLISHER. The marketing and pricing of this game was SONY"s responsibility. Not Sean Murray's. Not Hello Games. So anything that got -blam!-ed up was THEIR fault....and trying put the blame off on the developer at this point is a really shitty thing to do. TLDR: Marketng and pricing of this game was Sony's job...and they set Hello Games up to fail. Instead of charging the typical price of an indie game. Sony saw the chance to leverage the attention this game was getting (rightfully) for its innovative use of procedural Generation to charge a AAA price for the game. But with that price came AAA game expectations from the fans....which Hello Game's 15 man studio was never going to be able to live up to. People expected a AAA game.....the got an niche Indie game....and now they're mad as hell...and the truth doesn't matter anymore. But instead of Sony being honorable about this. They simply threw the dev under the bush, and joined the hate chorus. AS IF THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW THIS GAME WAS MARKETED.

if it was priced as 10-20$ indie game, which is what it is, I think it would've been received much better. so many people are pissed (100% legitimately imo) because it was priced as a AAA game and fell far short of delivering on expectations. and yeah, the people saying Destiny should've also been attacked on those grounds originally are 100% right imo. it looks like an interesting game and I am planning on getting it once it's priced correctly in the 10-20 range.

            • I tried to like the game. I really did. But after I heard that the game was data mined and there wasn't even a finished player model, I had enough. I was already getting bored, but that nailed the coffin shut.

I can't believe anyone actually believed NMS was going to have multiplayer in it. When not one video was ever shown of multiplayer would go out and buy NMS thinking it was going to have multiplayer. Just goes to show you how naive gamers are
