People saying they won't buy Destiny 2 if you have to start over
Not a troll guys but lets be honest. You'll still buy it.

Edit: thank you for all the replies. Surprisingly there are not many people supporting the 'no reset' camp.
I'd like to see a Mass Effect style carry over. Fresh start with the same character feeling. Good talk guys and gals.

I won't buy it if what I have done so far doesn't carry over. If it is more like Halo and nothing carries over with each new release, then I will.

I dont care either way, i just looked at the article where deej said your characters would carry over, and about this 10 year story, hell i dont even know what the story was for the first , there are characters introduced then wammy never heard of again, and in not reading grinmore cards, if i wanted to read id buy a book

I would list other examples, but it would cover hundreds of titles, so just a few examples are Borderlands, the Elder Scrolls series, even the Arkham series. It's ok to start over, seriously, this game will die if the same weapons we've been using for three years persist into the next game

Not really, the whole premise of the game was built around keeping the same characters throughout the entire series. I could care less about weapons and gear, they seem to always have a way of coming back, but characters would be a different story. Expect a mass exodus if that happens, they already lost a bunch going into year 2 and that was just because of the gear not moving forward. I suspect bungie knows this and will keep the same characters, I'd like them just to add one and add newer factions.

Totally gonna buy it! Who cares if you have to start over! I had a pow wow w/ friends over this. Wouldn't it make the most sense if D2 were a prequel thus explaining/easily transitioning a total wipe from our D1 characters? 🤔 ...As of it was before our current guardians time...

I won't but it right away (I might anyway so who cares) I would like to see what the game will be like before I buy. Vanilla Destiny was complete doo doo. We all know. But bungie has learned from their mistakes, just look at the game as it is now. It's a good game. And destiny two will most likely he good. And like I said, i'll probably but it. I don't care that much about having to start over. I'll be a little mad, but not that much.

I'd prefer to start over. Think of the excitement at the beginning of the game when you don't know what to expect. You'd lose some of that if you already knew all of the abilities and had the same guns etc. Yes, they could add new stuff on top of it, but you'd inevitably get less new stuff if they carry over old crap.

Why would you want to start a new game with the same character anyway? I mean I won't mind if we do but saying you'll quit if you can't use the same character is dumb imo. That's like expecting to play the same character in the Fallout series, or an ES game. Yes you put a lot of time into the game but it's a grind-y game due to the RPG elements; all RPGs are like that and thus have a lot of gameplay time sunk into them, it's nothing new. I'd prefer it if we had to start over and they didn't carry over a ton of weapons from D1 just for fan service (maybe 1/2); if we start over it'd be a ton easier to introduce new players, powers and concepts. Rather than start the game with D1 players who are already strong af and an surge of new players who don't know what's going on. Rather that than our guardian living for however long, travelling to a new solar system (presumably) and getting new powers.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of treatment Destiny 2 receives, once we get a reveal trailer or gameplay videos or whatever. I honestly think people should be wary because Bungie will keep doing what they're doing now. On topic though: new game, new characters guys. I'm not trying to spend the next 8 years and 7 sequels playing the same 3 characters.

It wouldn't bother me, but I don't think that will be the case... Players have invested so much time in their Characters that it would be like Bungie are giving the community a slap round the face... You can't sell the game that was released on a 10 year plan with the phrase "Become Legend" and then make their Legends irrelevant... That's just a cause for the most salty riot ever to erupt

I believe it will not be a new game if you did not have to start over. Otherwise, it will only be another DLC. I will buy it either way.

1 Replyi will be upset if we can't carry characters over butttt........... If the game leaks are true, and the game is going to be what has been leaked, then i think it is going to be even better than the current destiny. If it is a better game, why would you not still get it if you have had fun in this game? I get the sentimental value, and the gear that you have "worked" for, but even a baby lets go of its pacifier eventually, as calming and comfortable as that is to them. Moving on isn't necessarily a bad thing.
