Now that we have private matchmaking, should Trials be changed?

Leave Trials the way it is now.

Go back to Y1 matchmaking.

Create Flawless and Non-Flawless Tiers.

I don't care about Trials.

So now that we have private matchmaking and Bungie/MLG are showing interest in promoting Destiny as a competitive shooter (yes, I'm aware there are many additional changes before this could occur), I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are about where Trials now fits into Destiny? Originally Trials was seen as the PvP end game activity, but does the addition of private matches and tournaments somewhat change it's place in the game now? Objectively Trials Gear is primarily cosmetic, offering no real combat advantages with the small exception of the intrinsic Last Resort perk on adept weapons. As such would there be harm in adjusting Trials matchmaking or adding the much discussed tiered system into Trials to lower the difficulty for some of the less skilled players? Personally I would be in favor of some adjustment which might lower the barriers to entry into Trials for newer players due to the steep learning curve. I'll also openly state that I have never gone flawless in Trials, due in part to the fact that I'm an older player who can't keep up with the reflexes required for this game type, but also because I find the slow pace of elimination boring. Just interested in hearing what everyone thinks about Trials place in the game now that private matchmaking is a thing.

  • Tier systems... Everyone starts the same, every weekend. In the same pool. All account based. Once a player has gone flawless, they will receive an emblem showing it. The next time that player attempts to go flawless that weekend, with any character, they will be out into a pool with players who have gone flawless 1-3 times account based that weekend. (1 time with all characters, or 3 times with 1 character). Teams will be matched based on highest flawless player that weekend. (If I hadn't gone flawless thus weekend, but play with someone who's gone 3 times, we will be placed in the 1-3 tier). If we go flawless again, all players in fireteam will recieve 1-3 tier emblem. Unless 1 of those players did not do entire card with team, then that 1 player does not receive emblem. It will go on like this with tiers 4-5. Then 5+. Going flawless in the 5+ tier will net those players with the greatest emblem. We may even be able to add another tier. I don't know how easy it will be to reach and what player populations will be. Good things about this. More people will reach lighthouse. Making the tier 1-3 larger. The players who are very good will pretty easily get to tier 4-5. 5+ tier will be smaller but basically be elite of he elite. On a weekly basis this tier system incentives the elite players to keep playing to reach emblem for bragging rights. But what about next weekend, no one wants the same emblem they already have. On top of the emblem they should give out armor sets based on rng like usual. Aka Parraia gear or however you spell it in the 5+ tier system. Once all Parraia gear is unlocked on a single character and worn during trials, except one allowed slot for any exotic player wants to use, another top elite emblem will be handed out, for the true best of the best with ornaments for weapons or armor that can only be unlocked by doing this. Making the top tear elite rewards purely cosmetic is essential. As being rewarded with better weaponry, is just another advatage given to players who don't need it. This will take players awhile to receive. Past the emblems, gear and ornaments will be rng based, incentive zing top players to keep going to gather it all. They will have access to ornaments, emblems, and cosmetic gear, including ships and possibly soarrows, that low tier players will not have access to. What do you think?
