I thought the ammo nerf was really going to hurt us PvE players. Fact of the matter is, it didn't. If 4-6 rounds of sniper ammo is enough to force you to change your tactics, there's a bigger problem.

  • We feel it less because we're 335 and do more damage, but I remember when it first came out struggling against War Priest and Golgoroth because we didn't have enough ammo dropping for us in places we could actually get it, and our synth timers hadn't cooled down. Simple fact of the matter is this was added to "compensate" for the fact we were getting a higher light level, NOT for PVP purposes like they sold it. IMO, that is just stupid because PVE wasn't the issue, PVP was. So while you may be right that once you are 335 it doesn't really matter so much, on PRINCIPAL, it was sold as a PVP change, not a PVE change, and therefore, it should be reversed. Just my opinion. Its a shooter game. I see no reason why they should give us ammo crunches in PVE. Dregs, Thralls, captains, knights, etc. They don't complain no matter how much you kill them repeatedly with snipers/chainguns. I understand the need for balance in PVP, but balance in PVE isn't fun. We grind endgame content to obtain some of the best PVE weapons in the game. We need more weapons like G-horn Y1. OP? Maybe, but more fun than anything else this game has produced IMO.

  • It didn't force anyone to change tactics it was just annoying because it was purely don't for pvp reasons.

Matter of fact, it did hurt, and I'm not talking about 6 rounds, 8 rounds are a GREAT difference (from the max of 24 to 16 it's a 33% less with ammo perks). You know what it's to pick up an ammo pack and not get even a full mag of sniper? 3 bullets per pack, 11 total if any ammo perk has been selected. 14 with chest and boots sniper ammo perk. 16 with the special ammo perk in chestpiece (only some exotic ones have it) and sniper ammo perk in boots. It hurts because you have to scavenge a lot more, you have to almost PRAY to get a single ammo package drop. A SINGLE AMMO PACK. They become much more needed. And don't get me started in that I'm obliged to use ammo synth in a regular basis instead of sporadic usage like it was pre-nerf. It may not hurted you but it definitely hurted ME, as a PvE player. A PvP nerf affecting PvE players, I bet this is the only game when things like this happen. This numbers come from my observations on my Longbow if you ask me.

  • The specific nerfs to certain snipers didn't make sense, you are correct. My hunter can carry 19 with his KYS, which is MORE than enough to handle any encounter. I'm a PvE player, not a PvP player btw.

Most of the snipers I used suffered from the ammo reserves nerf, even the ones that didn't deserve such nerf (mid impact or lower ones took a huge hit IMO). I'm not a huge fan of the 1KYS (mainly because I hate how most of suros guns look believe it or not and because I had better snipers), but it having 19 as you say it's unfair compared to snipers in it's same category (I don't have an LDR so I can't compare it eiter, but for what you say My Longbow get's 3 rounds less). Still, When I used the 1KYS it used to hold 24 rounds with ammo perks. Do you remember that in december Fusions where nerfed both in stability and ammo capacity an then brought to normal? Why snipers and shotguns can't have it's reserve ammo capacity back? In the other side they can nerf the timer for special ammo boxes for PvP so both they and us can be happy.

  • Yea, it didn't fix anything in PvP. They said it was a PvP nerf so they could get away with nerfing PvE. When I first heard about the nerf, I was concerned about the raid. Namely, would this nerf actively increase the amount of time it took to complete certain bosses. Example: would warpriest take a standard 3 rounds instead of 2? Also, as a titan who typically is your bubble guy in the middle, I used a TON of sniper ammo for the Oryx fight. I supplement with ToM, but snipers are faster and safer to use, not to mention the best tool for damage on the shade. I was worried. Hell, one of the most fun things in the game to me is using Thunderlord, feeling the static and damn near tasting the gunpowder is one of the most rewarding feelings when shooting a gun in this game. When the nerf hit, my team ran a raid. It felt exactly the same. Strikes and such? There's enough adds to kill that ammo isn't an issue really. Like with shield bro's, that tank in the hanger still get's WRECKED by a couple guys blasting snipers into it. So again, the nerf really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. At the end of the day, I have special and heavy when I need it, and oftentimes I have it when I don't.
Most of the snipers I used suffered from the ammo reserves nerf
Every sniper suffrered from it, some (like the 'bow) got hit harder...that makes no sense. Also, KYS isn't Suros.

  • It's been ages since I did a raid, so I can't test it there (I actually have a fireteam of 4 in PS4, and the other 3 we used to play are missing). About the 1KYS I need to correct myself, it's a "Vanguard modified Suros sniper rifle" as someone told me long ago (there's also a blue sniper that looks exactly like the 1KYS and it's a Suros). The fact that snipers that fall in the same category recieved the nerf in different proportions... Why? I can't understand it. It's both ilogic and unfair if they wanted to promote weapon diversity.

  • Shame to hear your crew disbanded, I'm on xbox otherwise I'd say join up! I'm not saying the nerf was perfect, but after feeling it's effects; and how little it has disrupted end-game content, I'm not too worried about it. It could definitely use some tweaking though. If anything, they could consider lowering the count a bit more with most other high-impacts and giving low impacts much more reserve ammo. Shotguns shouldn't have been hit either, in my opinion. That's actually where I notice it the most, but nobody talks about because hey, shotguns freaking SUCK in PvE nowadays.

  • Also, thanks for the offering, I am trying to plan a raid since one of the 4 we play now hasn't done a single raid yet (he just got recently into Destiny).

  • No, never heard of it and I don't know what it's for. And about the 1KYS being a Vanguard modified Suros, the one I was talking about it's a green sniper called Suros JLL-19, see that it's exactly like the 1KYS.

  • Yea, I knew what you were referring to when you mentioned it. If i'm not mistaken it's been around for awhile! the100.io is a site you can use to post games for a scheduled time, and people can sign up! So you could post a raid for say, Saturday at 4:00. Set the game to public, and set 4 slots as reserved (yourself +3 buddies.) State you have a rookie, and people can sign up! I'm not sure how active the PS4 side of things is, but I know the Xb1 side was pretty active last I checked. It's a great resource for people trying to coordinate or with set play times. Oh, and it automatically converts for time zones =)

  • I may take a look if me and my friends can get the other members to join. Since we are from spain we have a much easier time comunicating in our native language than english (which I bet we only know how to write, my pronunciation sucks at the very least). I'll see if we can plan a raid for this weekend, I want to bring the rookie to VoG so he can se what I saw the first (and only) time I went there (I'm a Y2 player, started just with TTK release).

  • Well, you write English better than I could hope to write Spanish. Haha, I'm from Southern California and just started taking Spanish classes myself for work, though I imagine the Mexican pronunciation would be somewhat different than a Spanish person's.

  • It is in fact, Mexico has many words that we don't use and also we use words they don't . About my english level it may have helped me that my stepfather was born in Texas, and that english it's pretty common on the internet, so you get used to it. Thanks for the compliment too :D

  • About shotguns I must say I love my Stolen Will, but I would prefer one with full auto (mine has crowd control and surrounded, so it's really okay for PvE situations). In PvP I tend to be hated because If I want to use a shotgun I use the UR and ammo problem solved. And yes, low impact snipers should be oriented to taking away loads of T1 enemies from war away. The reduced ammo capacity they have actually makes them really unviable compared to their high impact counterparts in PvE, and this shouldn't be a thing. Also my loadout really depends on what I feel like using on that moment and the map that it's selected. The ammo reserves doesn't feel that punishing in PvP compared to how punished I feel about it in PvE. I mean, in PvP if I run out of ammo I look if there's an ammo box and go for it if it's ready to pick up. In PvE I depend on the factor that enemies HAVE to drop the ammo, which not always occurs, so...

  •
In PvE I depend on the factor that enemies HAVE to drop the ammo, which not always occurs, so...
Anecdotaly, it's very rare that I have no ammo on the floor AND my synth is on cooldown. But hey, that's me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE shotguns. But the nerf they did to prep for TTK really did them in. Found Verdict used to be able to down fallen captains in the skolas fight in 2 shells. After that fight, it took 3. That's when my love affair with shotty's ended.

  • I do not run shotguns lately in PvE to be honest. Even further, it's been days since I went on patrol or strikes or something. I'm grinding for a Zombie Apocalypse WF47 but Shaxx thinks that having armor on top of more armor it's going to help me more than a decent machine gun (and also completed that long ass PvP quest yesterday)

I also believe it hasn't forced most to change tactics, what it has done is limit our choices. For me, I always use sidearms and fusions, so I could only observe. What I see is better discipline, but with a sense of confusion. They don't disagree, my friends just suspend their mind to a zero perspective. Did it simply have to occur? For that, answers are then divided. It matter not for tactics but now opportunity. Yes opportunity is a derivative of a tactic but primal. What if people just felt like using snipers more? Now they can't.

  • Have you seen how much special ammo drops these days? Really nothing changed. Very rarely, unless you were using black spindle very effectively on warpriest, would you blow through 25 rounds of sniper in one go. All this did was make sure that we have to gather an extra pack or two of ammo after blowing some rounds. 18-19 rounds is plenty to be able to shoot your gun freely. The old Halo snipers held 20 (was it 20+4?) When FULL. And the pickups were much more rare in that came.

  • Yeah, sometimes I get so much special that I run out of primary. Other times I get heavy for days but no special. I find it very inconsistent and much worse than it was pre-nerf. Maybe that's just me though. All I know is I don't use hand cannons for much of anything any more in PvE because I'm sick of running out of primary ammo and only seeing green or purple on the ground. That happens with scouts too. I never would have thought I'd ever feel the need complain about too much special and heavy ammo lol.... Anyone ever have those cases on patrol when no ammo drops at all? That happens to me, I literally run out of everything and there's nothing to pick up anywhere. I end up having to go to orbit and come back. It usually works after that. That started after the ammo nerf.

  • I could see it happening in patrol, but tbh I don't spend a lot of time in patrol anymore. I use a hand cannon for the first half of the raid, poe, and for most strikes I do. Ammo is very rarely an issue for me especially since they buffed the capacity to about 80 rounds. 80 = about 60 kills with a hand cannon, primary bricks drop in that time. Especially since I'm getting grenade, special, heavy, melee, and super kills all the while.
