How do you feel about a platform recieving exclusive rights to content for two (two plus) years?

Can't we all just get along?

Let's be real here (and yes I fully expect to get roasted for this post). The reason XBox players are complaining about the timed exclusives for Destiny is because they feel undervalued. any time something like this happens people will complain. Is it for good reason? Depends on how you look at it. Morally is there an issue here? Yeah kind of. Bungie / Activision has no precedent or need to cater to it's players, it's not written that they need to inform us of such things. They DON'T owe us (all players) a thing. Players in general may or may not feel that way. the vast majority of us (at the very least the ones continuing to talk about this subject) have dumped hundreds if not THOUSANDS of hours into this game. with that comes the likely feeling of "entitlement" that is spurring this debate. Somehow or another the vast majority of people who've spent money on all the expansions, time playing with their friends, and time in this universe in general feel like they are part of a community. It also doesn't help that on numerous occasions Bungie/Activision themselves have told us "they hear us loud and clear" or "this is only possible because of you" - in between the whole "you're going to throw your money at the screen when you see this" bit. We all make our mistakes I guess. So when something comes along like this that actually does divide the community it's important to understand that going forward. All that being said, there is something to say about keeping good faith. Lets' face it, all companies are out to make money - that's their entire point of existence. But somewhere in that mission they do so by attempting to "make customers happy". When your customers are happy - you make money. Nothing says lets not make customers happy by favoring a specific group over another - which is the basis for how the players feel here. Are they right in feeling this? Well that's what all the arguments are about. Nevertheless that is how they feel. And by this simple logic alone there is some if only a little validity to the argument that players have been slighted. More realistic people have decided it's nothing to be upset about in the long run. That "it will be what it is" and that's that. This is the high road. This is the less drama "at least we get something" approach. Honestly this is probably how the community should feel - I mean COME ON - it's just a game right?(or have we lost sight of this at some point?) Well as history proves that isn't necessarily correct. Falling in line is the fastest way to say to an organization that "yes what you're doing is ok". So the outcry from the community has validity there despite the fact that literally NOTHING is owed to us or anyone at all ever. What we're left with is an awkward situation. You've got a company that made a decision regardless of it's reasoning that has somewhat divided an otherwise pleased community (I use the term pleased loosely). You've got a community that feels like they are owed something for their loyalty to a brand (don't ask because I have no idea what that could possibly be). And lastly you've got reasons that both sides - both gamers and the game company are right AND wrong. Bottom line here is chances are nothing is going to change, and I'm ok with that though a lot of people are not. However I fear setting this as an example going forward is bad for the gaming industry as a whole. Playstation, XBox, or both, we're all gamers, and we will all be affected by this type of behavior one day. So I leave this with a polling question; Do you feel that having 2 years exclusive rights to content in any game is a good practice? I'm curious to see what the community has to say about this.

  • I personally dont have a problem with exclusive content, Just make it available in a reasonable time frame to all platforms or dont make it available at all ! No big deal waiting 6 months to a year, but two years down the road the content is irrelevant.
