Should Destiny 2 be M rated?

WAIT!!! DON'T COMMENT YET! I'm not saying this so we can have more blood. I'm not saying this so we can have in game sex. I'm saying this so we can make the enemies as evil as they are in the lore. Example, the Hive lore wise are the most terrifying things ever. The light being ripped like skin from a guardian or being knifed by a weapon made from a ghost is scary as hell AND ALL IN THE GRIMOIRE. But because of the T rating we will never see the Hive as more than "They came from the moon and did all this spooky stuff off game." The more evil the enemy, the sweeter it is to kill them. Its basic writing really, build up your antagonist instead of just shoving them in your face. The Taken King kinda did this with Oryx in the intro cutscene but have you guys read the book of sorrows? YIKES. Please comment your thoughts below. Edit: Okay l hear a lot of people arguing less people would play the game if it was M but do you think Bungie (Made Halo and the angry 12 year old) and Activision (Made COD and perfected the angry 12 year old) care about an M rating?

  • If pixar, disney, and the networks get away with gore, horror and innuendo i dont see why video games should suffer. If they still want the kindergaurdians to play they could release a pg version

I wouldn't mind at all if they made that move. We all know bungie won't do that but we can still dream. That way we wouldn't have to suffer over youtube videos of squeakers creaming their pants over a longbow drop anymore lol. Then turning around and making snipers are OP posts after they find out, they don't have the skill to use one properly

I might be weird but i would pay extra for a mature version of destiny 2. Especially if they make it sexy as well :-P lmao but mostly for like executions and stuff in the crucible
especially since the earth isn't repopulating by itself... Sexyfying destiny would be a real thing since if humans are almost extinct :-P
It doesn't need to be M rated to have sinister story telling, the Hive can be violent and gross enough with a 16 rating.

  • Yeah, why not. They could also do what call of duty does with filters depending on what they do.

  • I'd love a more adult story, but it'll never happen, they want to target the younger player base.

  • Cool idea, but unlikely because that may require a complete art style overhaul for destiny 2

Yeh... Most every good game I've played has been rated M which has allowed the developers a lot more creative freedom in my opinion, aka elder scrolls, fallout, halo 1-3, quake, cs-csGO, ect.

  • Yes. Lets face facts here this game has a older community. Meaning there are more over 21 then less. So thats means most of the halo population transfered over to this. And since there is no real reason to rate anything anymore. Watch any tv show and its all gore or what have you. So it would make game a lot better. Enemys could be a little darker as they should be. Story could have more depth. And shaxx could finally say what he really wants to about us. Its just all around best move to make.

  • I think you touch on a great point here why have a badass grimoire if the enemies in game are basically ugly puppies with guns just doesn't make a lot of sense. For my second thought everyone else that's saying it should get an M rating is also extremely correct. The way I look at it is if bungie got destiny 2 it's m rating that may draw more players to the game of they see blood spatter and real violence instead of the somewhat childish deaths that are in game now

  • Really, if Destiny was rated M you know people would eventually be asking Zavala or Cayde to build a strip club on the Tower. Heck, it could even be across from the Speaker's area where Zur hangs out all the time. And being able to hear Saladin swear would be awesome too. Except Shaxx, keep him how he is, we know he sleeps with stuffed animals.

    • Rating games T is the same as rating movies PG-13. It can still be kind of edgy while hitting as many different demographics as possible.

    • I agree for two reasons: 1). Not as many little brats And 2). We can actually see the wnemies live up to their reputation in the grimmoir. Wouldn't it be cool if we could see some actual warfare in game and not in cinematics?

      • People saying that if it was M that Bungie would lose a lot of their playerbase....don't be naive. Legions of parents buy M rated games for their kids to play. Not hard to get.

        • 90% of call of duty Bo3 players are under 18(not fact). I don't think destiny's player base would shrink l. If it where to shrink It would be a minor ammount.

        • Imagine the tower intercom and character dialog with a m rating. We all went to the moon...and got -blam!-ed up by crota. -Eris Hey...get me the -blam!-ing hell outta here.-Cayde -blam!- yourself guardian. -Shaxx But they don't let us say this on the forums so it probably won't be like that.

        • Honestly think it would be a wise decision. I mean, this is the company that made Halo, no gratuitous swearing, no insane violence. It was because the flood was SCARY as shit. First time going through being swarmed by mutant monster parasite things was tense and scary. They can't do that kind of stuff with destiny because it would be too scary and violent to keep their T rating. The problem with needing to avoid these things, is that without giving it that emotional impact, it makes it very hard to care about anything happening in the game. Honestly I have never felt much connection, or threat from anything happening in the game. Lots of things that are threats but... I have never seen any of these things BEING a threat. The Fallen? Well, you get a little from the cutscene of them breaking out of the reef, to go and do stuff that will threaten the city in the long run. The Hive? Well, I've killed alot of them and hunted them down, never seen em actually threaten the city, mostly they just stay in their ship and blow people up who come to them. The Cabal? Uh... are these guys actually evil? They occupied Mars presumably after the darkness wiped everyone out there, they leave earth alone, and it takes the Taken directly attacking them to make them leave their comfort zone on Mars.. which they have apparently been at for quite some time.. are they actually even at war? Who are they fighting? Not us, not the fallen, maybe the Vex? though they stay local to Mars... honestly they feel like a research expedition checking out the Vex. I feel like you are the dick who invades their planet and starts murdering everyone. The Taken? Coming for you! sorta.. alright with chilling in the dreadnought and waiting for you to come to them, other than picking a random spot on earth to attack (cosmodrome) leaves the city alone.

        • Ratings are to comply with regulations, not to sell games. Games are sold for $$ reasons, not social statements. Compliance with 'rating schemes' are forced, they are not financial decisions.

        • I feel the rating is irrelevant in all honesty. By that, I mean that the rating isn't what's keeping the enemies of the game from being an as evil or scary. It's the ability to tell the story. To tell who they are. Like most of the "driving" information in destiny, the details are left out of the game and are only found in the online flash cards. This makes the enemies rather dull with little motivation to fight them in game unless you leave the game to read about the enemy and their motives. This was the result of a writing decision, not the rating. For example: Wing Commander prophecy holds a T rating, but motivates the player to fight the enemy by giving information and background on them. You are told about the rooms full of tortured and dissection prisoners found by your marine raiding teams. You are told about their nature, motives, and goals. You see that they are such a significant threat by having the last few survivers of your former enemies be willing to join you to fight them without holding back. You yourself can be captured by the enemy or watch as your home carrier is destroyed in a desperate attempt to stop the enemy. All with a T rating. So I say focus more on expressing a want for more story depth and motivation than indirectly asking for a higher rating and hoping that a better story will come with it.
