My old buddy just moved down the street from me. I told him we should game and drink a few sometime like old times. He say okay cool. We have different consoles and games. How the hell are we going to game together other than playing some old ass game in an age where splitscreen co-op is dead?
How did modern gaming come to this and will couch co-op ever return? I know that money and online subscriptions have much to do with killing couch co-op. Could the industry ever figure out a way to bring it back and still make money?

I feel ya. Just one of several changes happening in gaming and with the industry that disappoint me.
-
Rocket League. That is all.
-
Agreed. Even if you don't do it often, having multiple people in the same location that end up wanting to play video games usually leads to disappointment these days unless you have "party games".
-
Yea it's a damn shame really. My dad bought my younger brother an xbone real cheap and he bought a bunch of games for it. He use to be real into halo and wasn't aware of the fact Halo 5 ditched it for better graphics. It's sad to see a feature like that go when me and my dad use to play couch coop halo a lot.

Don't know why any games have splitscreen anymore, frankly. Why would you want to have half a screen and go to someone else's house when you can stay home, still play and drink and have the whole screen?
-
I agree I'm very happen battlefront added it.

lmao these people complaining about their precious 60" HD monitor being split in half smh Try playing need for speed 3 on a 9" CRT monitor with split screen and driving with the I, J, K and L keys and then tell me split screen has issues. Like bruh, the Wii-U has mainly local MP games and they're some of the most fun ones this generation. If you'd honestly sacrifice a fun social experience for the sake of simple aesthetics there's something wrong with you. It's an optional feature that almost everybody except for you uses when available, but nah, let's stop making it an option in every game, ever because 'muh FOV' man trolls have really started clutching at straws to try and rustle jimmies these days
-
Not really. What we trully need are more devs like ND, CDPR, FROM, etc.

Not to sound like an old man, but I think it's funny how many people here are bitching about split screen dividing their screen when they're likely playing on 30+ inch flat TVs. In my day we'd 4 way couch co-op because we had fun actually seeing our friends, and we'd do so on 20 inch TVs. I don't care what anyone says, you'll never recapture the feeling of Halo CE being played locally against multiple Xboxes with cables running all over the damn house.
-
People love to complain about splitscreen when they are on giant screens. I still miss the days of playing Mario Party 6 with my 3 brothers on a 15 inch screen when my family was piss poor. Oh how your greatest joys are found when you have nothing.
-
Bump the lack of split screen in new games makes me sad. Like we can play on the same room, but only if my friends want to bring their tv and console over lol. Lab party's are cool too but more of a hassle
-
I hope it returns. I love playing games like GTA O and The Division with friends online, but there's times I'd just like to invite a few friends and play a good couch co-op game, but there isn't many good couch co-op games anymore.

Smash bros
-
Me too man
-
Try forza Motorsport 6
-
There's a Left 4 Dead 2 mod that lets up to 6 people play couch co-op.

Take off your nostalgia glasses, stop living in the past

modern gaming needs more games concentrating on the story instead of multiplayer. concentrate on a story like witcher 3 or deus ex
-
Diablo 3 bro
-
Helldivers Diablo III Spelunky Bro Force ....are on call for when my rl brothers come over for drinks and gaming.
-
Yeah i need more of those. Have a mate living 2 doors next to me, we like having an old school co op night at times. Currently we play games of Fifa, Helldivers and Rocket League. Without buying a Nintendo console, that actually seems to be all we could find. Anyone got more suggestions for me?
-
Try Divinity Original Sin. Local and online coop. Awesome, if you like complex, turn based RPGs
-
splitscreens suck though

Edited by RH Stealth: 8/1/2016 4:28:03 PMI hate playing in split screen. I'm not interested in offline multiplayer unless the screen doesn't have to be split, like in Sonic 4 and fighting games.
-
Borderlands trilogy, Diablo 3, Rocket League, Castle Crashers Literally the only local games I need. Forza Motorsport as well, I guess.

The YouTube channel Extra Credits made an interesting video about this awhile ago. Basically it's more in the interest for companies to not support split screen because they can sell twice as many games. Also it takes extra time and money to implement the feature.
