If you were to design a Vault (with no backfire, as the citizens don't know about any of your might-be wicked experiments) what would you do? Be an evil madman with purposes only a scientist could understand? Or a Overseer with a heart? Your choice!
My Vault, Vault 63!
Home to all criminals who'd be forced to elect an Overseer, to see if the crumbiest people can make order out of nothing. If no Overseers is selected in a certain timeframe most of the residents would die, as a Vault-Tec scientist (who's been sent from Vault-Tec itself, along with some guards) has the key to the food rations, with only little water supply for the first few weeks or so. Once and Overseer is selected the rep would give the Overseer the key to the rations, supplying everyone with food. The key is locked behind a safe hidden in the Vault that only the rep and Guards knows the combo to unlock it with. There are to be know weapons/explosives that can break the safe, and in the reps room is a small ration of food/water so the rep would live. If any Vault-Tec sent Guard sees the rep giving away food he is to be terminated. The Vault will be presented in a shabby style, so that the Overseer could really start their new life!
So, what do you think of my vault? Too evil? Make yours better! (Or worse)

7 RepliesEdited by MugiwaraBlair: 7/30/2016 12:03:28 AMI would randomly make a resident vanish and thoroughly clean their quarters. All staff would be instructed to act as though the vanished resident never existed. Ideally I would vanish another one only after everyone (or at least the majority) comes to believe they did actually never exist. Maybe assist the process with "treatments". The end goal would be to make the last resident believe he was the only one to begin with. Then all staff would retreat to a hidden segment of the Vault, which would probably make him or her think that s/he was alone all along, maybe they'd even think they don't exist either. That or just play infrasounds non-stop everywhere to see if they can live normally or if they all just turn into super anxious hallucinating wrecks.

10 RepliesVault 62 This Vault would act as a large warehouse-style department/grocery store. It will sell a wide variety of things from groceries to clothing to holotapes and tools. The Overseer will act as the "Manager" and have underlings who act as employees. The experiment will basically see how long it takes for people to get fed up with the place, and whether or not they come back. The experimental procedure is this: The Vault Dwellers will be customers, but will have a very hard time finding what they want. The "Employees" will be as unhelpful as possible. When the customers do finally find everything they want, they will walk over to the cash registers. There will be a row of 40 cash registers, but only 2 of them will have cashiers. 1 will be 15 items or less and the other will be for everything else. To add to the experiment, customers who have paid will have to be stopped by an Assaultron who acts as a "Vault 62 Greeter" upon exit. The Greeter will then check their receipt all while asking them intrusive questions about their day.
I'm sure someone can guess what I'm basing this off of.
11 RepliesNot sure on the number, but my Vault would be a sort of bioweapon vault. That, in it of itself, isn't creative, but wjat sets it apart is the type of bioweapons it creates. The vault tries to make a variety of sentient parasitic beings that form symbiotic reationships with their hosts, taking nutrients from them, in exchange for granting them somewhat superhuman powers. They came in various shapes & sizes, ranging from teddy-bear-ish creatures, to serpentine dragons, to living hair, and even replacing a person's entire skeletal structure. The Vault fell into disarray, as some of the parasites began to completely disregard their hosts, treating them like puppets, forcing them to do things against their will, or in some cases devouring/disabling their brains, taking over the body themselves. (lets call these guys "Puppeteers") Some of the more "morally correct" parasites thought they should live in harmony with hosts, and went to war with the Puppeteers. (we'll call these guys "Intentions") Sad to say, the Puppeteers' complete control of their hosts' bodies, as well as their own abilities, gave them more strength than the Intentions, who could not control their host. As the Intentions' numbers began to dwindle, they decided their priority was to seal the Puppeteers inside, so that they couldn't spread to the people outside. The Intentions smashed the internal door controls, making it so the Vault could only be opened from the outside, knowing they would soon perish. When the Vault is opened, the protagonist finds these "Puppeteers" everywhere. Most of them have gone mad, as with their hosts "dead" they had a hard time eating, and became little more than bloodthirsty abominations. One sane Puppeteer, in the deepest chamber of the Vault, however, tells you all of this (along with clues scattered throughout the level) saying that the Intentions were right all along, and that he's only survived for so long, by living by their ideals, though his host is fairly withered, but still alive, if only barely.

Edited by What I Look Like: 7/30/2016 2:25:25 PMMy Vault would be Vault 0. Home to a band of extremely smart super mutants who have found yet another silo holding a nuke. They task you with various missions to retrieve needed components and even have you haul the warhead to them. It over encumberers you and irradiates you (+4 per second with no Rad X, +2 lowest possibility). They upgrade it with science shit, and then they turn around and say "we want you to use this on the BoS". You can opt to launch it (launch pad is at the silo, quite a ways away from any possible targets) at Jacob'stown (forgot to mention my Vault is in New Vegas' world), BoS bunker, Camp Mcarran, or the Legion main base. Passing 3 speech checks (90 INT, 90 science, 90 repair) gives you the option to repurpose the single warhead into a splitting warhead. This gives you the option of blanketing nuclear fire on areas in the Wasteland where abomination and enemy threats are high. Quarry junction to kill off Deathclaw nesting area, most areas with ghouls, any Powder Gangers or animals like Cazadores. Story behind the Vault is simple. These mutants are the Master's undercover geniuses. They despise all factions (but don't attack or hate you for representing one) and hope in any way possible to spread destruction in the name of the Master. Side note, passing a single survival check of 100 will have them questioning their ties to the Master. If you can do this then they will all be available as companions (only the head who we can call Albert is essential and cannot die, he is also a Nightkin). The mutants will not want to destroy humans anymore, and will only want to assist. They will secure their own place in the ending and actually aid the Wasteland into becoming a better place. Maybe by going to Vault 22 (mutated killer plants made into a strain that is consumable and can grow anywhere easily). They also have numerous nightkin and mutants throughout the Vault, guarding them.

I'd rebuild Vault 69

Others have posted Vaults ruled in dictatorial fashion, others under Communist rule. Mine is different. This Vault would be controlled by a very devout religious Overseer. He/she would not try to solve problems themselves, but would instead pray to God (or whoever they worship,) to ask for guidance. The security and scientists would be normal people, but the residents would all be hardcore atheist extremists. Let your imagination run wild with that one.

1 ReplyEdited by Tobito_TheGod: 7/30/2016 4:40:45 AMA mega mall so i can have even more caps that i don't need. The test would be to see if the people get fed up of working for some overseer who rarely ever interacts with them.

2 RepliesA vault where people only communicate with the dankest of memes

1 ReplyHave a massive biosphere with an entire ecosystem, where people have to hunt for their own food. Selling food is not allowed.

If I made a vault, I'd have it contain a Warrior that can decimate an entire planet... But it spews out eridium every time it dies.

4 RepliesThe vault residents would be split into two factions, red and blue. They would be taught that it would be better to die than to be disloyal to their faction. Then once a year 3 dwellers from each faction would be picked at random and locked in the network of caves below the vault for a month. It would test their loyalty to the other members of their faction as well as their survival skills. The goal would be to create the most powerful and loyal soldier possible for future government armies.

8 RepliesMy vault is quite simple extremely patriotic Americans or survivors/veteran from the Alaskan front forced to live under communist conditions and rule/government the overseer and their family as well as Chinese immigrants would "privileged" upper class in the vault and would act as Chinese communists As the vault was entered it would be treated as a "normal american patriotic vault" as the years went not communist polices would be sneakly implemented outright subliminal messaging would also be used all while this is going on their would be never contact between the Chinese residents or the Americans This is not racist this would purely be a vault idea based on lore to see the subjectiveness or revolt to the social structure

2 RepliesLots of buxom ladies in bikinis. Oh and MILFS lots of MILFS. I'm thinking D and DD need only apply.

2 RepliesA vault that would have 50% of the population be feminists and the other half be normal men Then we wait and watch
-
4 RepliesA vault created to make everyone living in it genetically mutated and see how life goes from there

1 ReplyI would have a computer (which is really just controlled by vault Tec scientists) act as the overseer. It would be the ultimate authority in the vault and it would be basically a brutal dictator with absolute control of all systems. Then after a certain period of time the computer would be turned off leaving a power vacuum. Then wait and see what the reaction of the dwellers is. Will they establish a democracy? Will someone step up and fill the position and obtain absolute power? Will there be no government and people will just continue tending to their own responsibilities in a communist like society? Then reintroduce the computer overlord and see if the new government system(if there is one) will immediately collapse of if there will be resistance.
