Its never been something that made the sniper overpowered it just that primary isnt worth it anymore to really use unless you are in your special weapon's unpreffered range. (Although I have been sniped at melee range). There has also been a spike in Universal remote users and shotgun users in general but with the nerfs that were made to them when year 2 came around, snipers just stand out more.
